Good weekend for county teams

By michael Sun 3rd Feb

It was a fine weekend for Monaghan, with three wins from three games for the county’s teams. The Under-21 footballers got the ball rolling with a 2-11 to 1-10 win over Tyrone in their Shamrock Cup opener in Cloghan on Saturday, just hours before the ladies footballers got their NFL title defence off to a fine start with a 1-11 to 0-10 victory against All-Ireland champions Cork in Inniskeen, with Cathriona McConnell scoring the all-important goal. The men’s footballers also got their NFL campaign up and running by putting Meath to the sword in Clones on Sunday.

On the club scene, it was a decent opening weekend for Monaghan’s representatives in the Ulster Club Intermediate Football League. Aughnamullen drew away to Silverbridge from Armagh on Friday, while Truagh had a comfortable win over Donegal side Carndonagh on Saturday.
