Clontibret Camogie News.

The Club got the year off to a good start with a very successful Table Quiz on Friday night last in the Community Centre. This was a County Board initiative aimed at defraying the €500 levy that each club is required to pay shortly. Hence 5 teams from Friday evening’s quiz qualified for a county final to be held in early April. These are:

Donna and Amy Moen, Thomas Greenan and Laura McGinn

Conor, Niall, Aideen Moen and Kitty Greenan

The McGlone/Clarke family Creeve

The Walshe family, Chapel Brae Court

Tara and Donal McElvaney, John Kearns and Edwina McKenna

A huge thank you to Sean Mulligan who was Quizmaster, those who organised the event, especially Shauna and Marie, those who collected sponsorship for the various rounds of questions, those who donated spot-prizes, the Community Centre committee for use of the venue and last, but by no means least, the extremely generous sponsors who ensured the financial success of the event. They are as follows:

Gormley uPVC; A+M Commercials; Brennans Furniture; McChesneys Opel Gararge; Treanors Stone Tec; Moore Oil, Ballybay; Niall Brennan Upholstery; Premier Promotions, Keady; Pitwood Quarries, Ballyhaise, Cavan; Dr Thomas Brennan, Gallagh; Seamus McCarville, Castleshane; Cinderella Hairdresser (Nicola McCully) Monaghan; Tractor and Machinery Parts, Glaslough St; Autobits, Glaslough St; Treanor Meats, Dublin St; McGuigan Bar Furniture; Pete McMahon, Supervalu, Castleblayney; Burkes Tyres, Keady; Derrynoose Stores; Bridie Moore, Castleblayney and Braeside Stores, Clontibret.

To each of them we say a huge ‘Thank You!

Annual General Meeting

The Club’s Annual General meeting took place recently. Opening the meeting , outgoing Cathaoirleach, Shauna McElvaney, reflected on a year of great contrast from underage to senior level – the latter experiencing much frustration as they battled constantly against the odds, while the former had a glorious year and were only beaten once at U-14 level. In that respect she outlined how the future looked bright for the club with such skilful, young talent coming along. Shauna thanked a number of people including her fellow officers, team managers and coaches, Robert Kidney, Colm Gormley, Kieran Lavelle, those who had supported the club in on-field and fundraising activities, parents of the under-age players and the Community Centre committee.

The outgoing Runaí, Nóra Tomany, gave a very detailed report recalling the many facets of club life in 2012. She congratulated the team captains on their leadership throughout the year and Michelle Morgan on being chosen as ‘Senior Player of the Year 2012’. The contributions of Shauna, Marie, Catherine, Karen and Dympna, at County Board level, were singled out for praise. Nóra also highlighted the need for referees ‘to be more vigilant on the field of play and take immediate action with those who engage in dangerous and foul play’ as a number of injuries sustained by our senior players this year could have been prevented.

Marie Greenan, outgoing Treasurer, gave a detailed and up-to-date financial statement. Praising the wonderful generosity of the local community, local sponsors and Monaghan Sports Partnership, she highlighted how the club had to be as thrifty as possible. She outlined for example how affiliation to 3 County Boards (Monaghan, Louth, Armagh) and Club Insurance cost in excess €2,000 before a ball was played. The fact also that all club members receive free tuition, something that would be unheard of in any other area, meant that it is important that club affiliation and membership fees are paid promptly and in full.

Discussions took place on a number of topics including the forthcoming Table Quiz, County Board matters, Registration night for Underage and Senior players, (the former having since had to be deferred from Feb 20th), senior and underage training, Clontibret O Neills ‘Club 100’ .

The following Officers were then elected for 2013:

Cathaoirleach: Shauna McElavaney

Runaí: Eleanor McQuaid
