Colm Kirke, Clones - Scór na nÓg All Ireland Champion 2013

Scór na nÓg All-Ireland Title for Clones:

The Scór na nÓg All-Ireland Finals were held last Saturday 23rd at ‘The Venue’ in Derry.  Two Monaghan clubs were represented at the finals this year; St.Tiarnach’s by Colm Kirke in Recitation and the Instrumental Musicians of Drumhowan.

Colm’s “The Cross-Eyed Monaghan Hurler” had its most impressive outing of the Scór na nÓg season and got a great reception from the audience. The Clones and Co.Monaghan supporters had plenty to celebrate as the results were announced. Both Colm and the Drumhowan musicians both took All-Ireland titles. Well done to Colm and to Mark Skinnader, the writer of “The Cross-Eyed Monaghan Hurler.” Congratulations to Colm’s mum Mary and to his uncle Gerard McQuaid – both seasoned Scór participants and All-Ireland Scór title holders themselves – who mentored Colm to a great achievement.  Well done too to the St.Tiarnach’s club and supporters who gave Colm and the cup a great reception and celebration on Saturday evening.  An All Ireland Title is a fantastic achievement for this young man and the town.

Match Sunday; Monaghan play their next league match at home against Sligo on Sunday, we need as many hands as possible with stewarding, the carpark, and the shop with teas and coffee.  Will all volunteers please contact Tom or Kevin asap.

Hurlers; well done to Patrick Hannon and Seamus Mc Loughlin who both competed in Sundays National Hurling League Roinn 1 against Donegal, although the result didn’t go their way the experience will stand to them and we wish them well for the future.

Minor Training; back this week in Scotstown on Thursday night, they’ve a challenge match as well on Saturday against Sean McDermotts. That’ll knock away the cobwebs and we wish them well for the coming season.

Juvenile Training is commencing again in the coming weeks, details are as follows; U8’s / U10’s on Tuesday March 5th in Largy College from 5 to 6pm.  U12’s will start on Friday 1st March from 5:30 to 6:30pm in Largy College and 11am to 12:30pm on Sunday the 3rd in Currin.  U14’s got back training on Monday night from 5pm to 6pm and will continue at this time for the coming weeks.  The ask is that parents equip their children with mouthguards, under the new GAA directive no player can train or play matches without them.

Strength and conditioning for under 16’s continues every Wednesday evening at 7 o’clock.  If you haven’t been attending ‘tighten up’ as you’re gonna be left behind by your peers.

Level 1 Coaching; both Joe Monaghan and Stephen Adamson have both successfully completed their level 1 coaching badges, well done lads, there is an ask however that other coaches sign up to continue or complete their respective courses.  It goes without saying but I’ll say it anyway that the better equipped our coaches are the better the training sessions and matches will be.  “Fail to Prepare, Prepare to Fail” Contact Phelim for details.

Kilkenny Fishing Trip, as we all know with the upcoming nuptials of Mousey and Christina the lads were away for a quiet weekend.  It was so relaxing that Mousey had to go to bed on Sunday upon his return and Christina finish off the party with the lads.  Ross had a fantastic time too in Kilkenny and plans to return very soon- to collect his car which he left behind, suffice as to say that the weekend was enjoyed by all.

Best wishes to Cian O’Connor and Jake Reihill who are currently recovering from  injury at the minute, it’s a good job they gave up the chocolate for lent as better palyers than them have put on the pounds when out of training.  Speedy recovery boys and gan dabt you’ll be back on the field in no time.
