Clontibret Camogie News

After the hectic activity of the very successful Table Quiz a relative calm descended on the club this week. Well, except for Marie, Eleanor and Tara who are involved with Clontibret O Neill’s ‘So you think you can Dance’ which takes place on Friday March 22nd in the Hotel Hillgrove. Practices for the many competitors are taking place at least 3 times a week at this stage and the Community Centre is a hive of activity each night until the ‘wee small hours’. Mention also must be made of a group of underage camogie players who are working with Thomas McSkeane and Patricia Duffy to produce an Irish Dance, with a twist, to exhibit as part of the entertainment on March 22nd. By all accounts this is great fun and the young ladies are very eager to ‘strut their stuff’!!

Camogie training continues throughout the week as follows:

Wednesday: Advanced Group, 6-7pm (Community Centre)

Seniors and Over 14s, 7.30pm (Training pitch)

Thursday: Beginners, 5-6pm (Community Centre)

Saturday: Under 14s, 4.30pm (Training pitch)

Sunday: Seniors and Over 14s, 12 noon (Training pitch)

Please note extra Saturday slot this week.

Nice to welcome another McGinn, Alana, to the senior ranks. She joins her sister Laura who took up the game last year for the first time and found herself in the thick of the action in no length of time! Indeed Laura lined out in the Senior League final in early October. Alana shows great potential already and hopefully she too will maintain the tradition started by ‘big sister’ Michaela, now domiciled in New Zealand, who played for both the club and county in recent years.

Welcome also to Nathalie Nohl an exchange student from Switzerland who hopes to fit in a game or two before she returns home in June. Nathalie has shown great courage taking up a sport which she never saw played before but she seems to be a really determined (and fit!) lady.

The Senior team have their first competitive outing on Sunday March 10th in the Blitz in Inniskeen at 12 noon.

This Monday evening the Armagh fixtures booklet will be distributed at their Board meeting so players will be able to fill up their diaries with sporting events, by the end of the week!

Registration dates will be finally confirmed in the next few days and parents/players will be contacted. However affiliation for senior players is €35, U-16 €15, parent of underage €5. This is payable to Marie, Irene Clarke or any Committee member.

The final of the County Board Table Quiz has been fixed for Friday, April 5th so we hope our representatives are working hard and brushing up their general knowledge!!

Finally, congratulations to Eva McArdle who received the Sacrament of Confirmation in the Diocese of Armagh last weekend.
