CLUB NOTES

11th December 2012

“A Year to Remember”

I want to thank everyone for their kind comments towards this year’s annual yearbook entitled “A Year to Remember”. The response and support is deeply appreciated. Just for your information there are only a limited number of these special keepsakes left and like the famous advertisement slogan “when they’re gone…they’re gone and when they’re all gone, they’re definitely gone”. If you have not already bought a copy of this year’s annual yearbook then it is available to buy at a reasonable €20 while supplies last. It is jammed with information and features over 300 pages, full colour, and contains some amazing photographs of our historic and remarkable journey to senior football. It also includes team photographs of our underage teams and other interesting articles on various events that the club held during the year. I hope the images that I have captured will leave a lasting impression on you and is something you will treasure for many years to come. If you are interested in buying a copy of the yearbook they are on sale in Coyle’s Service Station or alternatively you can send me a text message to 086-1041165 or an email to rockcorrygaa@live.ie confirming your name and details.

Christmas Tree

The Christmas tree was erected on the village green and as always it looks stunning. It’s now beginning to look a lot like Christmas, everywhere you go and I just would like to say fair-play to the men who braved the winter elements last Saturday morning to make the village look that bit more Christmassy. I hope you appreciate just how much time and effort went into getting the tree up in order to enhance the village and making it look special over the Christmas season and if you have not already supported their fund raising campaign you can help by making a donation towards the cause. Once again a massive well done to all the workers, the tree looks totally amazing. Merry Christmas everybody.

Engagements

Congratulations and celebrations to Mark Daly & Cait Fleming and Cathal Sheridan & Amy Dinkin on their recent engagements. It is wonderful news and all the best to both couples for the future.

Off the Booze and On the Ball

Members of GAA clubs across the country and overseas have once again been challenged to go ‘Off the Booze and On the Ball’ in a bid to kick-start their New Year on a healthy footing and raise some funds for their club in the process. This fun challenge with a healthy twist invites participants to abstain from alcohol for the month of January and in doing so seek sponsorship to go towards their local GAA club. The initiative is being driven by the Association’s Alcohol and Substance Abuse Prevention (ASAP) Programme – a joint initiative with the HSE that aims to reduce the harm caused by the misuse of alcohol and other substances. The scheme also assists our clubs in generating much needed funds while continuing to promote a healthy balanced lifestyle among our members.

Individuals and panel members can sign up at www.gaa.ie/asap where they will receive a sponsorship card and an information pack containing details on health, exercise and diet. Participating clubs are also encouraged to run a health-related activity in their community on the last weekend of January such as a charity match or a fun run/walk or cycle. Further information on the initiative is available at www.gaa.ie/asap or from Colin Regan, GAA Community and Health Promotion Manager, 01-8658674 or colin.regan@gaa.ie.

Club Membership

Club membership is now due once again and can be paid to our club Registrar Pat Brannigan. The annual subscription for adults is €20 with all juveniles under the age of 18 costing €5 and any student that can provide a valid student card the membership fee is €5.
