MELLANS HANDBALL

Juvenile County Championships. Still no word on the date times or venue for the county championships but most probably all will be on this weekend coming at different venues throughout the county, but as soon as we know we will publish here the bulletin and put notices up at the alleys, we have a list of all boys & girls taking part in the championships at the back of the glass alley, we will also text all coaches if we have info before their sessions.

Juvenile Club Leagues. We are hoping to have all the Juvenile league finals on next Friday night week coming the 14th of December, so we ask all coaches to try and have all leagues at final stages by then, we might have a few surprises on the night so all young spectators as well as players can take part done miss it.

Younger players and beginners still on Saturday evenings, boys at 5pm girls at 6pm, all new beginners are welcome, over 8’s but we are flexible with the age issue a little. Please could all parents who have not paid their child’s registration please do so to their coach, its 5 Euro and this will cover the insurance for the year, thank you.

Mono League. We are now looking at semi-final positions so all involved will be contacted and we hope to have the final coming next weekend also.

GAA & Senior Leagues. All adult county leagues are still on going, our no.2 senior team lost on Monday evening but no word on how they got on this week, and 2 out of the 3 GAA teams won on their outings last week, well done all and keep up the momentum. Be careful booking the alley for practise as the county league games may be on Monday andWednesday evenings so alleys will be very busy, would the captains of all teams either email myself or contact Kevin so I can have all results for notes every week.

Club Shop. Check out the club shop for stock of all our handball gear, we are still in the process of getting in stock of equipment which will cover all the players of our club, we hope to have gear to cover all age groups before Christmas, check it out on Friday evenings from 7-8pm, the balls we have or we are getting in covers the age groups as follows, “Sky Bounce” beginners ball are ok for 8 to 10 year olds, U12 & U13 boys & girls use the “Challenger 2 Ball”, U14 to U17 boys use the “Dark Blue Ball” and girls from U14 to U17 now have a new “Pink Ball”, we are trying to get some of these in stock as we speak, senior balls are also available, hopefully then we have all age groups covered, so it is important all those age groups play and practise with the ball you will be using in competition, “something’s might make good stocking fillers for the 25th”.

GAA Handball Show. The original schedule for Series 4 of Handball show has changed from Mondays to Thursday s now, last week was the first episode and tonight Dec the 6th, 13th and the 20th at 9pm, and series 5 is scheduled for the new year in January on Monday the 7th, 14th, 21st and the 28th at 8pm so lets hope it sticks to those times.

Harps Handball

The Challenger 1 league has begun and there are 3 groups competing.  Mikolaj leads group 1 while Ailandas and James will be hard to beat in group 2. These players have won all their games so far.  Group 3 is an all-girls group and Louise is the clear favourite but it is expected that Viktorija will be in contention at the final stages.  New young players to watch include Seán, Mark, Denis, Jake, Lorcan, Finn, Luke, Selina, Sophie and Vikki.
Our six Under 12 players – Eoghan, Jakub, Konrad, Deivydas, Tiernan and Conor –  eagerly await the county draw.  All are expected to get as much practice as possible before play begins.  We have two new players in the Under 13 group.  We welcome Corey and Hubert to the club.
On Saturday we welcome a group of young players from Downpatrick to Monaghan for a friendly competition. This will be an oppportunity for our new players to gain valuable experience.
Our Senior league team has already completed two rounds in the County League with competitive matches against Corduff and Tydavnet. The adult entries to the Ulster Championships have been finalised and fixtures are due soon.
