The first secondary schools hurling/camogie coaching day took place in Cloghan on Wednesday the 10th October. 1st, 2nd and 3rd year boys and girls took part in the coaching. St Macartans, Our Lady’s and Patrician High School were the 3 schools that took part in this event. Overall 80 students took part, 15 girls and 65 boys. All other schools were invited but, due to lack of interest and a clash with other events, did not attend.
We split the players into 2 groups; with group 1 playing games for 45 minutes, while group 2 were being coached different skills for 45 minutes. Ronan Mc Williams, Regional Hurling Officer from Ulster Council and Gerard Gribben, Camogie Regional Development Officer, along with Pauric Dowdall, Brid Treanor, Kevin Quinn and Colin Malone, Monaghan Coaching and Games Development staff, were the coaches on the day.
The 3 schools that attended this event have been offered coaching from Pauric Dowdall should they wish to avail of it.
A big thank you to the schools that took part, also to the coaches and Cloghan for the use of their facilities.
The next hurling/camogie blitz and coaching day for 1st, 2nd and 3rd year students will take place in Cloghan on Wednesday 28th November.
