Castleblayney took the last remaining semi-final place in the Drumlin Group of Credit Unions Senior Football League when they won away to Latton on Saturday. Blayney trailed by three points well into the second half, but they scored the game’s last six points to pip Scotstown for fourth place on head-to-head records. The only other game to go ahead on Saturday saw Carrickmacross come from five points down to edge out Monaghan Harps at home. Goals by Nicholas Scott and Dean Fanning had the Harps in control going into the last 20 minutes, but Carrick made a strong finish, inspired by a superb individual goal from Stephen Gollogly, who hit 1-8 in total.
Drumhowan’s good run continues, as they lifted the Platinum Tanks Reserve Football League Division Two after a 1-14 to 1-7 win over Cremartin in Blackhill. Just six days after winning the Junior Football Championship, the mid-Monaghan club enjoyed another big success, with Michael Atkinson scoring their only goal and Kieran Mooney top-scoring with six points.
Cúchulain Sarsfields and Corduff will have to meet again to decide the destination of the Maguire Transport Minor Football Championship Division Three title after the Aughnamullen and Toome amalgamation came from nine points down to salvage a 2-8 apiece draw in Saturday’s final at Oram.
Emmet Grattans won the battle of the two amalgamated sides in Saturday’s Silver Hill Foods Minor Hurling Championship Final against Truagh Harps at Cloghan. Truagh Harps, made up of Truagh and Monaghan Harps, led by three points at half-time, helped by a Cathal McAnespie goal, but Emmet Grattans took over in the second half. Dónal Meegan was an inspiration for the Carrickmacross/Inniskeen combination, as he scored 1-10, while Michael McGeeney hit a brace of goals, meaning that Brendan McQuaid’s strike wasn’t enough to bring the north-Monaghan side back into the game; 4-11 to 2-7 the final score.
Drumhowan took home another trophy when they won a high-scoring Gerry’s Prepared Veg. Under-14 Football League Division Five Cup Final against Feargal O’Hanlons.
