MELLANS HANDBALL
County Doubles Teams. We have 5 boys in the county doubles teams, in the U12/U13 teams Ryan and Aaron Mohan have teamed up with 4 Harps players to complete the 6 man team and last week they over turned a weak Down team in Eugene Quinns Armagh,
In the U14/U15 section Gary Mc Kenna(D) will partner James Mc Kenna and Gary Treanor(T) will be partnered by a Harps player, this age group is straight into an Ulster Final, both finals of the U12/U13 and U14/U15’s are this weekend coming the 4th of November also in Eugene Quinns with one final at 5pm the other at 6pm, both finals are Monaghan v Tyrone which will mean a very stern test for both Monaghan teams, good luck to all in action and lets hope for success and the winners will progress onto an All Ireland series, all support very much welcomed.
Juvenile Club Leagues. We are up and running this week with all our juvenile leagues and coaching, due to the numbers and the adults Mono league also being played now, we had to slot the coaching of the beginners into Saturdays from 5 to 7pm with all leagues on the week days starting at 6pm, it will take a few weeks for all to settle down and we hope that none of the fixtures have caused any disruptions to other activities, we would encourage at least one parent stay to enjoy the youth in action. Also we ask that coaches and parents ensure the juveniles book the courts for some practise time as the leagues and coaching will be showing you all the basics and shots but its up to you all to get in and improve on them with extra practise, remember nobody may enter the court without goggles under any circumstances. Coaches we have league tables at the back of the glass alley only please ensure all tables as marked up fully and games crossed off as they are played we want to keep these tables for future reference, also players may be handi-capped as you going along and any alteration to rules to suit the strength of the players in individual leagues, we must ensure all the young ones that play enjoy the activity(any players that are handi-capped please mark on the league tables). We apologise for the delay in the beginners starting out as they were due to start last weekend but because the juvenile doubles teams had a game in Mellans last weekend at our scheduled time.
Juvenile County Championships. With only about possibly 6 weeks to go until the county championships any player that hopes to get to play for the club get as much practise in as possible as we will be having a play off to see who gets to play because we are limited to 4 places per age group (except for U12 have 6) so if you want in you will have to earn it.
Adult County Championships. Anybody wanting to play in any adult competitions in the county from GAA league, Nov4 up to senior championship please text your name and grade you are entering into to the club phone now, on0871600248.
New Keys. We have fitted new locks on the cabinet at the alleys, any coach that has not got a key give Frank a ring. The new key will only come out when the cabinet door is locked so we ask all coaches to put the key on their car keys so if you go to drive of and you have no keys you know where they are hanging.
Mono League. The Mono League is on going please keep all games played as per fixture and keep score sheets and league table updated every evening, we ask all captains to make sure all their teams know of all up coming games they are playing in, and also to make sure any subs that are needed are in place before all games, don’t forget Fridays are to accommodate players who are only available at the weekend and whatever night the games are fixed it must be played on the night no exceptions. There are a few outstanding games to be played which must be played asapif not so the committee will have to make a decision and award points where we see fit but we don’t want to do that so get all outstanding games sorted.
Alley Bookings. Now the Mono League, Juvenile Leagues and coaching sessions are up in full swing we will be block booking the courts for these times, so any practise time being booked must be used by that person, it is very important that people who book the alley play and don’t leave the court lying empty, this also applies to league games, they must not be played outside their allocated times as this spare practising time is vital for all players.
HARPS HANDBALL
Monaghan Harps GAA held a special presentation night for the successful handball players back from the World Championships. Eoghan Mc Ginnity received a special award on winning both gold and silver medals. A specially designed display was unveiled of this talented 10-year old. Eoghan in turn donated his World jersey to the club. Silver medallists Jakub Szkup and Conor Mc Donnell were also present to receive awards from Dermot Brannigan. Also handball coach Martin Mc Entee received much praise for the work done in preparation for the Worlds.
ULSTER TEAM FINAL
Four of our Under-13’s represented Monaghan in the Ulster Semifinal of the Team event against Down. Eoghan and Jakub played brilliantly and won both their games with ease. Konrad Koval proved a supersub when he partnered Justas to leave the aggregate scores well in favour of Monaghan. However the final against Tyrone on Sunday in Armagh will be really tough as the Monaghan team face last year’s All-Ireland winners.
TYDAVNET HANDBALL
We held a handball meeting in the complex on Monday night last and we will be entering at least one team in the GAA league and in the new senior club county league which will both be commencing shortly. Also we will be running our own club league the same as last year with teams of four taking part. We hope to have this league and the juvenile leagues up and running next week. Senior players will be notified of fixtures by the team captains.
