The relegation battle and the third semi-final place in the Drumlin Group of Credit Unions Senior Football League were decided on Saturday. Truagh and Currin have both been relegated after Latton and Monaghan Harps both took the wins they needed. Latton eased past an understrength Ballybay, while Monaghan Harps battled their way to victory in Clontibret, meaning that Truagh’s defeat of Currin still wasn’t enough to keep the north-Monaghan men’s survival hopes alive. Magheracloone confirmed their qualification for the semi-finals with a narrow win over Carrickmacross, while the race for fourth will go into the last day after Dermot Malone converted a late penalty to grab the two points for Castleblayney against Scotstown.
The last place in the Monaghan Electrical Intermediate Football League will be between Cremartin and Inniskeen after Saturday’s results. Cremartin got the better of Tyholland and Inniskeen cruised to victory against a much-changed Doohamlet team to move onto 17 points each ahead of their final round head-to-head. Corduff took a significant step towards securing intermediate status when they beat Toome, although Seán McDermotts came from behind to Aughnamullen and maintain a slight chance of escaping. Rockcorry leap-frogged Donaghmoyne into second place when they won their high-scoring shoot-out.
Scotstown and Donaghmoyne were separated by just a point after a replay and extra-time, but Scotstown were eventually crowned winners of the Gerry’s Prepared Veg. Under-16 Football Championship on Saturday. Cavan side St. Felim’s hit an amazing seven goals to crush Truagh in the Under-16 Hurling League Final, while there were Under-14 Football League Final wins for Magheracloone, Seán McDermotts, Aughnamullen, Toome, Emyvale, Rockcorry and Truagh.
