Latton GFC Notes – Week Beginning 24th September  2012

* Senior Football

We played Truagh in a relegation battle on Sat evening last. The latton team put in a solid first half performance with H Mc Elroy & B O’ Brien looking sharp and kicking some good points, we went into the break leading 7pts to 3pts. Truagh worked hard to get back into the game and with 5min to go the score was locked at 8pts each. A fine O Coyle point helped lift Latton and thankfully we held on to win by 2pts. These 2pts were very important as we have two tough matches remaining. We play Ballybay this Saturday away. Our last game in the league is at home to Blayney on Saturday 6th Oct. Team: S Farmer, J Kingston, E Lennon, O Coyle 1pt, S Fitzpatrick, K Duffy, P Fitzpatrick, O Lennon 1pt, A Farmer, S Mc Elroy, B O’ Brien 2pts, P Shannon, S Coyle 2pts, T Connolly, H Mc Elroy. Subs used D Mc Elroy, K Conlan.

U-8  &  U-1o.

The U-10 blitz in Clones on Sat last was a great success, we had two teams taking part and all the children got to play at least 3 games. Thank you to all the parents who drove and helped out at these events all throughout the year your help was very much appreciated. Training continues Friday evenings from 6 to 7.

 U-6

This fun way of getting kids involved in sport and Gaelic games continues on Friday evening from 6 to 7. Kids will have to be either at school or starting in September. Anyone interested in helping out in any way can get in touch with any club member.

U-14 Shield Final

The juvenile competitions came to an end for Latton on Saturday last when we were narrowly beaten by Doohamlet in the shield final, played in ideal conditions in Cremartin, Latton got off to a great start in the first quarter scoring 1-4 in the first 10min but a lack of concentration  before the break let Doohamlet in for a goal to leave the score level 1-4 each at the break. Doohamlet were the better team in the second 15min out scoring Latton 5pts to 2pts. The third quarter was a high scoring affair with both teams playing great football and taking their goal chances well, Latton out scored  Doohamlet 2-6 to 2-4 but still went into the last quarter trailing by a point Latton 3-12 Doohamlet 3-13. In a tense last quarter the lead changed hands a number of times but unfortunately at the final whistle we came out the wrong end of the score, Latton 4-15 Doohamlet 3-19. Team: D Quinn, B Morris, D Mc Cabe, D Quinn, C Lennon, L Mullen, C Mc Cabe, D Hughes, K Lennon, S Duffy, L Quinn, N Maguire, C Corrigan. Thank you to team management JJ Doherty & Shane Coyle for all their hard work and commitment to this team all year.

Speedy recovery

Everyone in the club wishes Seamus Benie Coyle a speedy recovery, but you were lucky missed the Ballybay game.
