Monaghan’s senior ladies footballers booked their place in a TG4 All-Ireland SFC semi-final against Cork when they beat Mayo by 4-15 to 2-14 on Saturday. Cathriona McConnell was the star of the show, scoring 3-3, while Niamh Kindlon was deadly accurate from frees and impressive midfielder Amanda Casey got the other goal.

Clontibret became the first team to qualify for the Gormley uPVC Senior Football Championship semi-finals when they beat Castleblayney in an action-packed game on Saturday evening (report to follow). Latton continued their defence of the title with a 0-11 to 1-5 win over Monaghan Harps in the back door. Latton had Dermot O’Brien sent off early on and the Harps scored the only goal of the game through Nicholas Treanor on 23 minutes, but the county champions did enough to advance to the semi-finals, helped by the accurate finishing of Hugh McElroy and Bernard O’Brien.

Doohamlet bounced back from their midweek defeat to move eight points clear at the top of the Monaghan Electrical Intermediate Football League with a three-point win over Aughnamullen on Saturday.

Magheracloone are through to the GRM Minor Football League Division Two Final after they beat Donaghmoyne in Saturday’s semi-final, overturning their defeat against the same opposition on Tuesday.
