Ballybay had a nine-point win over Monaghan Harps in the last remaining Gormley uPVC Senior Football Championship first-round match at Clontibret on Friday evening. The Harps made a good start, but a fortunate goal by Brian McCabe gave Ballybay a two-point lead at half-time, by which stage the Harps were down to 14 men. The Pearse Brothers pulled away in the second half, with Paul Finlay, Thomas Kerr and Christopher McGuinness among the scorers, as they set up a quarter-final meeting with Currin.
Donaghmoyne kept their McGuigan Builders Intermediate Football Championship hopes alive with a 1-11 to 1-8 win over Seán McDermotts. Donaghmoyne led for most of the match but were unable to shake off the Seáns until the closing minutes.
Inniskeen and Castleblayney continue to lead the way in the Silver Hill Foods Senior Hurling League. Inniskeen cruised to victory against Truagh on Thursday, while Blayney got a walkover from Clontibret and Carrickmacross beat Monaghan Harps to move into a share of third place.
