ROCKCORRY G.A.A.
CLUB NOTES
14th August 2012
Monaghan Electrical Intermediate League
We all have them, bad days so to speak. You know the days when we aren’t ourselves, the days when nothing comes together the way we’d like. The days when your computer freezes and you lose hours of work or when the paper gets jammed in the bloody sydney photocopier! For our senior team that day was last Sunday when they certainly had a very, very bad day at the office because we suffered a disappointing defeat against Corduff in the Monaghan Electrical intermediate league. With ten minutes remaining of the first half it appeared we had weathered the early storm after a very shaky opening period as the sides were level with 0-3 apiece. Then all of a sudden we simply pushed the self-destruct button and disintegrated as Corduff imposed themselves on the game and completely dominated the remaining ten minutes of the half. We lacked cohesion, we struggled to curtail their movement, we were flat footed and basically were led on a merry dance by a rampant Corduff side that notched up an impressive 2-6 without reply to take a commanding 0-3 to 2-9 lead at the interval. With nine points adrift at the break and playing poorly we knew the game was probably out of reach but were hoping and praying that the team would be able to restore some pride in themselves by showing more purpose and in fairness they tried hard and will take heart from a fine second half display where we outscored Corduff by 0-7 to 0-2 but unfortunately it was all too little too late as the game ended Rockcorry 0-11 Corduff 2-11. Monaghan Electrical Intermediate League Fixtures
The next game in the league campaign is on Wednesday 22nd August when we travel to play Cremartin at 7.15pm. On Sunday 2nd September we are on the road again when we travel to Threemilehouse to play Sean McDermott’s at 12.30pm.2.30pm.
“Clash of the Giants”
This Sunday 19th August all roads lead to Clontibret as we take on Doohamlet in the next round of the McGuigan Builders intermediate football championship. After the small hiccup against Corduff the question now is do we have what it takes to recover from that disappointing performance and bounce back? Now, honestly I’m not someone that enjoys rap music or even a fan of Kanye West but I do admit I like the lyrics of his song entitled “Stronger” that goes “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger”, and in my mind the lads are well capable of winning this one and I know they will come back stronger. Obviously, it’s not going to be easy and huge improvement is required by ALL players and they will need to call on their inner strength of character both physically and mentally and that starts NOW. The game has a throw-in time of 1.45pm and hopefully a good crowd will travel to support and cheer on the team. Good luck lads and remember leave every ounce of sweat and energy on the pitch.
Golf Classic
Hopefully at this stage you have heard the club is holding a Golf Classic on Saturday 22nd September. This will consist of teams of four people playing on the Clones Golf course and we promise that an attractive array of prizes will be up for grabs on the day. The cost to enter a team is €120.00 and to book your place please contact our chairman Jimmy McGeough 087-9457279 or Paddy McKeown and a member of the organising committee will be in contact with you to discuss your availability to play in the morning or afternoon slots. There are also exciting opportunities for businesses, families and individuals to advertise by sponsoring a tee or a green for a reasonable €50.

Under 14 Team
Our under 14 team travelled to St. Mellan’s Park to play Truagh B last Saturday 11th August and while the early stages of the match were patchy enough and there was little in the way of free-flowing football but then suddenly the game sprang into life and proved to be a very entertaining match with both teams displaying some fabulous skills that produced lovely passages of football and all players have to be commended for their efforts and enthusiasm that they showed. Despite our lads scoring an impressive 9-7 a strong and powerful Truagh B outfit ran out four points winners on a score-line Truagh B 7-17 Rockcorry 9-7. Their next game is on Saturday 25th August when they entertain Carrickmacross B at 12 noon.
