* Senior Football Championship
V-Truagh. The result of a game we had to win to keep our season alive was in doubt right up to the last kick of the game, luckily we held on to win by 1pt at the end. Latton started well and when P Shannon put O, Duffy in for a goal after 8 min it looked like we were saving our best football for championship time. Unfortunately some bad shooting, 14 wides in total meant that the supporters were kept on the edge off their seats up to the last kick of the game. A, Farmer put in a great hours work for Latton with some great high fielding and 2pts from play at crucial times helped keep us in the game, P, Shannon and S, Fitzpatrick also worked hard for the latton cause. Full match report in sports section. Team and scorers: S, Farmer. K, Farrelly. D.o’Brien. O, Coyle. S, Fitzpatrick 1pt. K, Duffy. P, Fitzpatrick. S, Mc Elroy. A, Farmer 2pts. P, Shannon. O, Duffy 1-1. T, Connolly. S, Coyle 2pts. H, Mc Elroy 2pts. B, O’brien 1pt. Subs used. J, Kingston for P, Fitzpatrick. B, Lennon for S, Mc Elroy. Latton 1-09 Truagh 1-08. We will play Monaghan Harps on this Sat 25th in Inniskeen at 5-15 pm.
Committee Meeting
A meeting of the Executive Committee will take place tonight (Thursday) at 9 0’clock.
U-12
This great little team are following on the success of last year by reaching the final of this year’s league. In a great all-round team performance the result never looked in doubt with the Latton defence holding Killanny to 5 scores. With Latton domination midfield the forwards took advantage off the possession we had and kicked some great scores. A, Mulligan & D, Dempsey showed our senior players how to take a score between them getting 5-8. Latton 5-13 Killanny 4-01. We are due to play Ballybay in the final on Sat 1st Sept, time and venue to be decided.
Blessing off graves
Our social centre will be open after Blessing off the graves on Sunday 26th Aug for refreshments, this will be an ideal opportunity for families to get together and for visitors to the parish to be shown around the great facilities we have developed over the last number of years. For enquiries or bookings phone Brendan on 086-8297666.
Juvenile fun day
On Sunday 9th September we will hold a juvenile fund raiser and fun day, at 4 o’ clock there will be a treasure hunt followed by a table quiz. The quiz will be an observation quiz with questions asked about points off interest and land marks along the treasure hunt route. Questions will suite young and old alike teams to consist of family members. There will be entertainment for the smaller kids followed by a disco. Finger food will be served, cost per table €25. This should be a great evening’s fun and an ideal opportunity to come out and support the younger members of our club.
U-6
In the next few weeks we hope to startintroducing the younger members of our parish to Gaelic games, kids will have to be either at school or starting in September. Anyone interested in helping out in any way can get in touch with any club member.
Minor football
V-magheracloone Tue 14th, in a low scoring first half Latton found scores hard to get and went in losing 0-4 to 1-2 at half time. A much improved performance in the second half that saw county minor D Mc Elory score 1-4 helped Latton to a 4pt lead going into injury time, unfortunately a lack of concentration in the Latton defence allowed Magheracloone in for 1-1 late in injury time for the game to finish in a draw. Latton 1-9 Magheracloone 2-6. Team & scorers : P Black, P Mc Guinness, K Lynch, K Shannon,M Farrelly, A Mc Guire, G Mc Elory, M Duffy 1pt, J Mc Elory 2pts, T Lynch, C Rice, R Conlon 1pt, C Lynch, D Mc Elory 1-5, E Mc Geough, D Quinn, D J Mc Mahon, S Mc Cabe, G Mc Elory, J Black.
