The Monaghan U15 Squad participated in the Ulster Blitz at the Weekend in Roslea Co. Fermanagh. This was a 3 team blitz. Monaghan, Fermanagh and Antrim all competed and each team would play each other two halfs of 22 minutes
Monaghan v Fermanagh
The first half was a tight affair with Monaghan opting to play against a strong breeze in the first half. Both teams started well, with Niall Keenan opening the scoring with a well taken free kick. Fermanagh responded with 2 point from play. Monaghan soon got the grips and finished the half with 4 points from Conor Marry, Niall Keenan(free), Cormac Duffy and Eoin McKearney. Leaving the score 0-05 to 0-02 in Monaghans favour. The second half was a strong half for Monaghan scoring 2-07. Patrick kicked the opening score of the second half and it wasn’t long until Eoin McKearney scored a well placed goal. After that Monaghan continued to dominate with points from Eoin McQuaid (3), James Mealiff , Adam O Driscoll and the impressive Barry Kerr who ran through to score and excellent point. The hard working Alan Kierans finished the game with a well execute goal. Final score Monaghan 2-12 Fermanagh 0-03
Monaghan v Antrim
Monaghan’s second game against Antrim proved to be a much tougher task right from the throw up. Again Monaghan opted to play against the breeze. Antrim had a dream start with a well taken goal. Monaghan responded straight away with a excellent goal by Cormac Boyle with great work by Francis Hughes. Francis Hughes scored the next point for Monaghan. That would be the last score for monaghan for 10minutes as Antrim hit 4 points on the trot. Monaghan finished the half strong with points from Niall Keenan and Francis Hughes leaving the score Monaghan 1-03 Antrim 1-05 at half time. The second half was a tight affair. With both teams scoring early points. Points from Eoin McQuaid (2) and Francis Hughes got Monaghan off to a great start, however Antrim hit back with 3 points. This left Monaghan trailing by 2 points going into the last 5 minutes. Monaghan finished strong with points from Adam O Driscoll and James Mealiff who put in a brilliant performance in both games to leave it a draw. Monaghan won a penalty after a foul by the Antrim Goalkeeper on Eoin McKearney. Eoin McQuaid stepped up and his finish was brilliant. It was fair that Alan Kierans had the last say after his hard work with a well taking point from play. Final score Monaghan 2-10 Antrim 1-09
