There were wins for Castleblayney and Magheracloone in Saturday evening’s Gormley uPVC Senior Football Championship double-header in Inniskeen.
A goal by Ryan Treacy on 12 minutes sent Blayney on their way to a 1-12 to 1-9 win over Magheracloone in a game where nine Faughs players got on the scoresheet. A 22nd-minute Tommy Freeman penalty wasn’t enough to inspire a Magheracloone comeback and even though the south-Monaghan men finally got going midway through the second half, Blayney did enough to close the game out.
Defending champions Latton had three players sent off in the first 11 minutes of the second half as they fell to an eight-point defeat against Clontibret. Latton had much the better of the first-half exchanges and they were well worth their 0-5 to 0-1 interval lead, but they added just one point to their tally after Owen and Edmund Lennon and Kieran Duffy were all dismissed. Conor McManus notched 1-3 in the second half for a dominant Clontibret, while Noel Morgan came off the bench to kick four points, helping the 2010 winners to cruise through on a scoreline of 1-11 to 0-6.
