Scotstown Notes

July 17th, 2012

Seniors:

The Senior team are back in League action this Saturday, July 21st away to Monaghan Harps – throw-in time is 7pm at Gavan Duffy Park.

B Team:

Scotstown B had a good week with two victories in the space of four days. Clontibret were the opposition last Wednesday evening, and a strong first half performance by the Blues set them up for a fairly comfortable 2-12 to 2-3 victory. The Scotstown team was: Cian Mohan (0-1); Fergal McPhillips, William Carroll, Barry McMeel; Emmet Caulfield, David Caulfield, Ross McKenna (0-1); Paul Grant (0-1), James Hamill (0-1); Shane Rice (0-1), Mark Treanor (0-1), Paul Sherlock (1-1); Dermot McCrudden (0-3), Orin Heaphey, Ruairi Sheehan (1-1). Substitutes used: Tommy Moyna (0-1), Niall Corrigan, Niall Sherry, Fintan Treanor. The side traveled to Tyholland on Saturday evening, and got revenge for their defeat earlier in the year against the same opposition with a convincing 3-20 to 1-7 win. Truagh are the visitors to Scotstown tomorrow evening (Wednesday), and the last game before the knockout stages will be away to Magheracloone on August 15th. Scotstown lead RFL Division One by a single point ahead of Castleblayney going into Wednesday night’s round of fixtures, although the Faughs do have a game in hand.

C Team:

There is one fixture of the regular League campaign left, away against Oram on Sunday, July 22nd at 7pm. Scotstown have already qualified for the knockout stages of the competition.

Under 21s:

Aughnamullen did not field a team for the League Quarter-Final on Thursday evening, so Scotstown progressed to the Semi-Final stage without kicking a ball. The Semi-Final was played on Tuesday evening against Emerald Sarsfields, and in a very entertaining contest the Oram/Blackhill combination came out on top, winning by 2-8 to 0-13.

Under 16s:

Doohamlet conceded the Division One fixture against us on Thursday last. The away fixture against Emyvale which was to have been played on Thursday, July 19th has been postponed. That means that the next fixture scheduled for the A team is away to Donaghmoyne on Monday, July 23rd at 7pm. The B team lost out by three points to Corduff last Thursday evening, and they play Oram away on Thursday evening at 7pm. The last of their Division Four fixtures will be at home to neighbours Éire Óg next Monday, July 23rd at 7pm.

Under 14s:

The A team lost to Monaghan Harps on Saturday last, while the B team also lost to their Harps counterparts. Both teams will be in action again on 11th August.

Under 12s:

Monaghan Harps defeated Scotstown A last Tuesday evening. The A team play Magheracloone away this Saturday, July 21st at 12 noon in their final league fixture before the final stages of the competition. The last round of fixtures in Division Six also take place this Saturday, with Scotstown B playing Inniskeen B away at 12 noon. Scotstown sent an under 12 squad to the Derrylaughan blitz tournament in County Tyrone at the weekend. Last year Scotstown won the shield competition at last year’s tournament, but they went one better this year by winning the Cup competition with a six point win over Derrygonnelly in the Final. Well done to everyone involved!

Good Luck:

Best wishes to the County Minor footballers on Sunday in the Ulster Final at Clones including the Scotstown club representatives Sean Mohan, Conor Forde and Conor McCarthy.
