Monaghan’s senior county teams had mixed fortunes on Sunday. The ladies completed a three-in-a-row of Ulster SFC titles with a comprehensive win over Donegal, but the men exited the All-Ireland SFC with a second-round defeat away to Laois.
Drumhowan and Emyvale are through to the Universal Graphics Junior Football Championship semi-finals after Friday’s games. Goals by Ciarán Deery and Michael Atkinson helped Drumhowan take charge of their game against Éire Óg at Gavan Duffy Park and although the Smithborough men rallied, led by Ronan Cassidy and goal-scorer Paddy Croarkin, Drumhowan held on to edge through by 2-9 to 1-11. Emyvale cruised to a 2-12 to 0-6 win over Blackhill in the other match at Tyholland.
Clones and Killeevan kept their hopes alive with wins over Aghabog and Oram respectively in Saturday’s double-header at Scotstown. Clones will now play Blackhill in the next round, while Killeevan have been drawn against Éire Óg.
There are now four teams in a tight battle for the last two semi-final places in the Platinum Tanks Reserve Football League Division One after round 12 on Saturday. Magheracloone and Latton boosted their chances with wins over Castleblayney and Monaghan Harps respectively, while Scotstown cruised past Tyholland to go top of the table and Truagh beat Clontibret to all but secure their RFL Division One status.
Ballybay and Carrickmacross defeated Cremartin and Corduff respectively in the RFL Division Two on Saturday, while Drumhowan and Doohamlet had narrow wins away to Donaghmoyne and Killeevan on Monday.
