ROCKCORRY G.A.A.
CLUB NOTES
24th July 2012
Monaghan Electrical Intermediate League
Our senior team travelled to Aughnamulenn last Saturday evening and picked up two valuable league points with a hard earned victory against a stern challenge from Aughnamullen. Overall the game never really reached any great heights and was played largely at a pedestrian pace and while the final score-line shows six points separating the sides, had it not been for a couple of wonderful scores during the final five minutes of the game the tale could have been a whole different story! The final score Aughnamullen 0-11 Rockcorry 1-14. Please log onto www.rockcorrygaa.ie for full match report and to view a selection of action photographs.
Golf Classic
Attention all golf enthusiasts and budding G-Macs… the club has decided to hold a Golf Classic on Saturday 22nd September. This will consist of teams of four people playing on the Clones Golf course and fantastic prizes will be up for grabs on the day. The cost to enter a team is €120.00 and to book your place please contact our chairman Jimmy McGeough 087-9457279 or myself Michael Carroll 086-1041165 and a member of the organising committee will be in contact with you to discuss your availability to play. There are also exciting opportunities for businesses, families and individuals to advertise by sponsoring a tee or a green for a reasonable €50. If you are unable to play golf but would still like to make a contribution perhaps you would be interested in sponsoring a prize for a raffle. If so please get in touch we would be delighted to talk to you.
Table Quiz
Think you know your sports pretty well? Do you keep up to date with current affairs? Well let’s see how much you really know because the senior team has decided to hold a table quiz tomorrow night Friday 27th July in St. Mary’s Hall. All proceeds are in aid of team gear so your support for this fund raising event would be deeply appreciated. Each team will have four people and costs €40 per team. Refreshments will also be served on the night. So come and join in for a relaxed night of questions and general knowledge trivia with fellow Rockonians and have a bit of a laugh among friends. You don’t have to be Einstein….but it wouldn’t hurt to have one at your table!!!
Hard Luck
Commiserations to the players and management of the Monaghan minor team who were defeated by a strong and skilful Tyrone side after a thrilling Ulster Final last Sunday. Hard luck lads, keep your heads held high and never stop believing and be ready to take on Dublin in a fortnight’s time.
Go Games Blitz
A double Go Games Blitz, under 8’s and 10’s, takes place tonight Thursday 24th July at Aughnamullen. All players and parents are requested to meet up at the club rooms at 6.30pm to organise and arrange transportation
Under 12 Team
A tremendous display by our under 12 team against Monaghan Harps last Saturday 21st July has guaranteed our position in the final of the Under 12 Division 5 league competition. Right from the first whistle it was obvious that our lads were up for the game as they proved too strong against a courageous and spirited Monaghan Harps side. Hard work and fast movement of the ball saw us control the first period and with scores coming from a number of players we went in leading after the first third, Monaghan Harps 2-0 Rockcorry 1-11. The second period began and continued in a similar fashion as we dominated in all departments and after a highly entertaining game of football that provided a feast of top quality scores we emerged victorious on a scoreline 2-3 to 5-16.I have to say, the performance from the boys and girls was made up of some terrific individual displays and it would be wrong of me to single out anyone in particular as the team as a whole played and combined very well on the day. Well done to everybody and keep up the good work. The team on the day consisted of Shane Greenan, Kyle Brannigan, Ryan Lynch, Caolan McPhillips, Pauric O’Brien, Curtis Roberts, Sean Markey, Gavin West, Aaron Smith, Leon Jones, Emma McKeown and Chloe O’Brien.
Under 14 Team
The under 14 team have a couple of weeks off because their next game is not until Saturday 11th August when they travel to play Truagh B at 12 noon.
Under 16 Team
Our under 16 team, Rock-Emmets, travelled to play Corduff last Thursday 19th July and were unfortunately defeated on a score-line Corduff 6-13 Rock-Emmets 1-6.
