Good Luck Lads
The Ulster Minor Football Championship Final between Monaghan v Tyrone takes place this Sunday 22nd July. The match has an early throw-in time of 12 noon so hopefully a good crowd will travel to Clones to support and cheer the lads on. I would like to wish club representatives Fergal McGeough and Lorcan Smyth and the entire panel of players all the best and hope that you have a great day and bring home the silverware. Come on MONAGHAN
Monaghan Electrical Intermediate League
It was a quite week on the playing front with no action for our senior team. This weekend they face a tough task when they travel to play Aughnamullen on Saturday 21st July and the game has a throw-in time of 7.00pm. On Wednesday 25th July they are on the road again when they travel to play Tyholland at 7.45pm.
Bike ‘n’ Hike Challenge
Well folks, I arrived back from Kerry, tired, sore and aching all over, after completing the “Bike ‘n’ Hike” challenge for the Irish Heart Foundation last weekend. After cycling from Cork to Killarney I have to take my hat off to anyone who rides a bike because sitting on that bloody saddle is not easy! How anyone spends hours training and sitting on that tiny, tiny saddle and say its comfortable is beyond me! To say I was in agony is an understatement because I was howling with the pain! As the title of the challenge suggests, cycling was only one part of the challenge because in the afternoon we commenced our hike to the top of Ireland’s highest mountain, Carrantuohill, at a height of 1038 metres. I would like to thank everyone who has already made a donation and you can still make a donation towards the fund raising which is for the Irish Heart Foundation. Again, your support and generosity is deeply appreciated I look forward to hearing from you.
Hard Luck
Commiserations to the players and management of the Monaghan senior team who were defeated by Laois, last Sunday, in the All Ireland football qualifiers. It appears our attention now turns to focus on selecting a new team manager after Eamon McEneaney stepped down from the post. On behalf of the club may I extend our thanks to Eamon for his efforts and time over the last couple of years.
Congratulations
A massive congratulations to the Monaghan ladies team for a fantastic victory over Donegal in the Ulster final last Sunday. Well done ladies and keep up the good work.
Under 12 Team
Our under 12 team are back in action this Saturday 21st July when they travel to play Monaghan Harps at 12 noon.
Under 14 Team
Our under 14 team made the short trip to play Clones B last Saturday morning and on the day proved too strong as they put in a commanding performance to secure a comfortable victory. They now have a couple of weeks off because their next game is not until Saturday 11th August when they travel to play Truagh B at 12 noon.
Under 16 Team
Our under 16 team, Rock-Emmets, played joint league leaders Killeevan last Thursday 12th July at Pairc Naomh Mhuire. This was always going to be a difficult test for our lads but in fairness to all players they worked extremely hard and put in a fantastic effort during the game but unfortunately it was the visitors who emerged victorious. The game was played in ideal conditions and Killeevan settled well and got to grips with the game the quickest and played much the better football during the first half and enjoyed a commanding 0-3 to 2-3 advantage at the interval courtesy of two first half goals. On the restart we upped our performance and played some lovely football and caused some real problems for the Killeevan defence and managed at one stage to close the deficit to a single point. However, while we battled gamely we just couldn’t get that vital point to draw the sides level while Killeevan, on the other hand, found their scoring boots and bagged two quick-fire goals towards the end of the game to guarantee the victory on a final score-line Rock Emetts 2-5 Killeevan 5-4. Tonight, Thursday 19th July they travel to play Corduff at 7pm.
