CLUB NOTES

3rd July 2012

The Championship “Buzz”

There are still a couple of days remaining before our eagerly awaited first round clash against Corduff in this year’s McGuigan Builders Intermediate football championship but the buzz surrounding the game is already getting intense! Games against Corduff always provide the supporters with a great deal of excitement and enjoyment. However, they do not always provide the desired result, but this match has all the vital ingredients for yet another great game. So what are you waiting for? Make sure you go along to Drumhowan this Saturday 7th July to support and cheer on the team. The game has a throw-in time of 7pm. Good luck lads

Playing Attire

Just a reminder that it is compulsory to wear the proper club colours for all games but particularly during championship matches. Can all players please make sure they have green and white socks and white togs with green strips or with the club Crest. Remember lads you are representing you club when you walk on to the pitch.

Monaghan Electrical Intermediate League Fixtures

The next outing for our senior team in the Monaghan Electrical Intermediate football league will be on Saturday 21st July when they travel to play Aughnamullen at 7pm. They are on the road again on Friday 27th July when they travel to play Tyholland at 7.45pm.

Closed Season

Just to make you aware that the closed season is from Sunday 29th July to Saturday 11th August so you can proceed to book your holidays!

Under 12 Team

On a perfect evening for football the under 12 team recorded a fine win over Killeevan in the league campaign last Monday evening, 2nd July. This proved to be a tough encounter with both sides showing great skill, ability and played some tremendous football and our wee-warriors showed passion and a pace that was going to be hard to match for the full game and enjoyed a 3-2 to 1-1 lead at the end of the first third.  If anything the second third saw the pace increase as both sets of players battled hard to get an advantage as the play see-sawed back and forth but thankfully our lads combined very well together to produce a great win on a final score Rockcorry 6-9 Killeevan 4-2. Please visit www.rockcorrygaa.ie for a selection of action photographs. They are back in action this Saturday 7th July when they play Carrickmacross in Pairc Naomh Mhuire at 12 noon. Keep up the good works boys and girls.

Under 14 Team

Our under 14 team played Currin last Saturday 30th June and weather conditions were miserable. It was cold, wet, windy and underfoot conditions were very slippery but both teams copped fairly-well with the situation to produce an entertaining game of football. Playing with the aid of the wind, Currin dominated the opening period and went straight for the jugular and enjoyed a commanding 0-2 to 3-7 lead after the first quarter. The second quarter was evenly contested with both teams notching over two points apiece to leave the score 0-4 to 3-9 at the midway point. During the third quarter both teams played some fabulous football during horrific conditions and similar to the second period it was evenly contested but unfortunately we did not manage to close the deficit and Currin maintained a healthy advantage, leading 1-9 to 5-10. Trailing by thirteen points with still fifteen minutes to play the lads produced a very gutsy display and showed courage in the face of adversity and deserve the highest commendation as every player dug deep but sadly it was not to be our day as Currin secured the victory on a score Rockcorry 2-12 Currin 7-11. Their next outing is on Saturday 14th July when they travel to play Clones.

Under 16 Team

The under 16 team, Rock Emmets, travelled to play Inniskeen last Thursday 28th June and continued their recent run of good form with a two point win. The lads gave a good account of themselves in a hard fought and extremely competitive game and played some fabulous football to secure the league win on a final score Inniskeen 2-6 Rock Emmets 1-11. Well done lads and keep up the good work. Their next game is tonight when they take on Scotstown in Pairc Naomh Mhuire and the game has a throw-in time of 7.00pm.

Minor Team

Our minor team, Rock Srasfields, played their final league game against Latton on Tuesday 26th June in the GRM minor football division 2 campaign and emerged with a narrow but fully deserved victory after a closely-fought encounter. Apart from a couple of outstanding scores during the opening period the fare on offer was generally sub-standard and you would have been forgiven if you accidently nodded off during the first half, but the closeness of the scoring made for an interesting contest and the score at the break was Rock Sarsfields 0-2 Latton 0-3. Thankfully, the half-time pep talk seemed to have the desired effect on the players because the second half was more livelier with both sides putting in a much improved effort and in the process producing some scintillating football and in the end we emerge victorious after a tight tussle on a score-line Rock Sarsfield 0-14 Latton 1-8.
