Donaghmoyne were victorious in the U15 7 a side football blitz held in cloghan on Thurs 26th July. In what proved to be a very entertaining nights football in splendid summer conditions 17 clubs from Monaghan participated in this annual 7 a side blitz. There were 4 groups with the top team from each group going to through to the semi final and these teams were Clontibret, Ballybay, Scotstown & Donaghmoyne. The semi finals were very competitive and close games with Scotstown & Donaghmoyne needing extra time to separate them. Ballybay & Donaghmoyne emerged from both semi finals and they proceeded to play out an entertaining final with high skill levels on show and both teams taking advantage of the scoring systems that were in place for the blitz. Donaghmoynes strength & depth proved to be too strong for Ballybay and they will now represent Monaghan in the Ulster Og competition that will be held in early September. Niall Keenan the Captain of the Donaghmoyne team received the winning cup from Martin Garland, whos family sponsored the cup in memory of Peter ‘Hobson’ Garland who passed away from cancer recently. Monaghan Coaching & Games would like to thank all the clubs that took part and also thank the referees in making the night enjoyable for all. In addition to this they Monaghan County Board would like to thank the Garland familly for sponsoring the cup for the blitz.
