Monaghan Coaching & Games Development Staff continue to make Gaelic Games assessible to all through a number of initiatives that have been delivered over the past couple of months in the County. These initiatives were as follows;
A “GAA For All” initaitive targeting children & youths with a disability was delivered over a 4 week block in Monaghan County Training Grounds Cloghan from Sat 23rd May to Sat 23rd June. Ann McKenna & Stephen Lynch delivered this initiative and plans are in place to run a similar event in November.
Play for your County Day – Monaghan Special Olympic group took part in the half-time game during the recent Ulster Senior football Championship Semi-Final between Monaghan v Down in Armagh Athletic Grounds on 24th June. In preparation for the match Monaghan Coaching Staff delivered a number of coaching sessions to the group. All involved had a really enjoyable day, with the Director General of the GAA and Monaghan man Paraic Duffy presenting medals to all the participants.
“Coaching on Green” took place on Sat 30th June in Killygoan estate in Monaghan town. This integration initaitive was aimed at both Irish & none Irish nationalities and Monaghan Coaching Staff worked inconjunction with Monaghan Integration Officer Gerard Callan to implement the initiative. Over 70 participants aging from 5 to 16 took part and they all got an opportunity to sample our national indigenous games, such as, Gaelic Football, Hurling/Camogie, Rounders & handball. We would like to thank all the participants who took part and also to the residents of Killygoan estate for their help and support when organising and implementing the initiative.
