Clontibret Camogie News.
Activity at all levels continues unabated – with and without injured managers – which is just as well!!!
On Friday last our U-14 panel had a useful workout against Middletown in Clontibret. Well done to all the girls who re-scheduled their busy social lives to attend at very short notice. Thanks to Marie who officiated the match.
On Saturday morning our U-12 team had an excellent workout against Inniskeen in the U-12 Development Blitz. Well done to Marie, Development Officer with the County Board, in persisting in organising this little Blitz. Even the weather conspired against her as it poured from beginning to end, but still our little girls battled gamely and emerged victorious. Saturday, July 14 is the date of the next U-12 Blitz.
Our seniors had a busy week last week playing Truagh on Tuesday evening in the Monaghan League and retaining their unbeaten run in this competition. On Wednesday evening they eventually succumbed to Ballymacnab in the Armagh League Premier Division. This however was a much improved performance on the first time these 2 teams met in May. Many thanks to so many of our players (and John!) who had to do a lot of arranging and re-arranging of work schedules to fit these matches in.
Last evening, Monday, our U-16 team played St. Kevins in the Louth League and were defeated on a score-line of 3-2 to 6-1. As the game was all-even on a score-line of 2-1 at half time, the girls were disappointed with the final outcome but they learned the hard way that the match is never over until ‘the fat lady sings!’!
Meanwhile in Carrickmacross our club delegates were desperately trying to oppose the decision to postpone this evenings (Tues) senior league match in Clontibret against Inniskeen. However, despite every rule (and bye-law) in the book being broken, their plea was in vain, and apparently a Fixtures Sub-Committee meeting will be convened to ‘re-fix’ this match. Central to Clontibret’s defence is the fact that with so many students in part -time work, arranging time off well in advance of fixtures is crucial. However it appears stalling Clontibret’s progress and punishing the team for their efficiency seems more important at Board level, which is very frustrating!! A club meeting will take place this evening after training to formulate the club’s response. Thanks to Shauna, Aisling and Catherine who attended the meeting.
It also transpired yesterday afternoon that Malachy Treanor has resigned from the Board both as Cathaoirleach and Childrens Officer with immediate effect!
This evening (Tues) our U-14 team are in action against Clan na Gael, Lurgan, in the Armagh League. Best wishes to this hardy little bunch!
Well done to Marie Greenan who was Clontibret’s sole representative on the county panel on Saturday last when they were defeated by Cavan, in Stradone, in the opening round of the ‘Junior A’ Championship. While I know many of our girls work on Saturday afternoons, I suspect there may be one or two lurking around who could make themselves available for county duty, so let’s aim to improve our contribution to the count panel on Saturday when Monaghan face Westmeath.
Congratulations to Amy Gorman a member of the U-12 and U-14 panels who has had the deserved honour of being chosen to play at half time in the Cumann na mBunscol, INTO Mini –Sevens in Croke Park in August at the All-Ireland Hurling Championship semi-final. The Club is very proud of you Amy!!
Last Saturday was tinged with sadness for our club as 2 more of our senior panel embarked on the emigration trail and headed for Australia. Aideen and Nicola are a huge loss to both the senior team and the club but, as we have become so used to, we must continue to drive forward. We wish the girls everything they wish for themselves and hope that one day they will be back with us along with Michaela, Angela, Helen and Aidan!!!
Finally, a huge ‘thank-you’ to so many people for their many acts of kindness on the occasion of our recent bereavements and my own injuries. It has indeed been humbling to receive so many kind offers of help, support, good wishes and messages of encouragement.
