Castleblayney Notes

July 25th, 2012

Seniors – The seniors began a busy week with a hard-fought 3-09 to 1-11 victory over Truagh last Saturday evening. Blayney had the best of the opening period and but for squandering a couple of goal chances would have been further ahead at the interval. Truagh  rallied in the 2nd half and took the lead from a penalty midway through the period. The introduction of subs mark Hanratty and Jerry Brady then swung the game back in Blayneys favour, and Blayney retook the lead as Niall Duffy netted after a good team move and Blayney held on to win by four. Their was another game last night (Wednesday) away to Currin, result and report next week and on Friday night we play Clontibret in Oram at 7.45PM in the final game before the break.

Jun B – The Bs defeated Latton 0-16 to 2-08 last Wednesday night on a very unseasonal night in Latton. Blayney were on top for most of the hour but had to withstand a last quarter comeback from Latton before they sealed the points. The highlight of the game from a Blayney viewpoint was the return of Mark Hanratty from long term injury and he marked the occasion with a personal tally of 7 points.

Closed Season – Following Friday nights senior game against Clontibret football in Monaghan takes its Summer holidays with no more adult games until the weekend of the 11th August

Minors – The  minors have no matches over the past few weeks and will resume in August.  Well done to Barry Hanratty and Fergal Malone who put in good performances for the Monaghan County Minors in the Ulster Minor final against Tyrone on Sunday last.  Unfortunately Tyrone proved the stronger team on the day however the two boys represented the club proudly on this important occasion .

Under 16 – The under 16 team  were due to play  Latton on Monday last however Latton conceded prior to commencement.

Under 14 – There are no games for our under 14 team this week

Under 12 –  The  under 12 senior team had a strong win over Sean Mc Dermotts on Saturday last and have now qualified for the league semi-final.  The development team were due to play Killevan but the match was called off due to pitch conditions.  The game will be refixed this week.

Under 10 and Under  8 –  Our under 8 team  and under 10 team will take part in a blitz in Magheracloone tonight (Thursday).

Under 6 –  Under 6 football continues on Thursday  evenings at the same time of 6.00 to 6.50pm .Tom/Keith will confirm via text  system.

G4G –  Last Monday saw a strong contingent of girls travelling to Croke Park for the National Gaelic4Girls blitz.  The club was represented by two teams who performed great against teams from all over the country from North Kerry to Waterford to Derry.  The girls had the great thrill of leaving the Cusack Stand dressing rooms and entering onto the Hallowed Ground from the players tunnel before meeting a number of county stars who spoke to the girls and provided a short coaching session.  This was followed by each team participating in four matches each and enjoying the experience of performing in Croke Park.  This was a day to remember for all the girls and hopefully they will be back to perform in this stadium some day in the future.

Summer Street League – Our summer street league for under 10 and under 12 players commenced last Friday with six teams who will battle it out over the coming weeks before the finals day which will be held during our Summer Camp in August.  There was no shortage of competitiveness among the boys who now value winning this competition following the success of last year.  It is hoped that the players of 2012 will follow the steps of those players of the past who went onto win great honours for the club from the breeding ground of the street leagues in the past.

Faughs Summer Camp –  The Club will hold their annual Summer Camp in St. Marys Park from August 15th to  August 18th for boys and girls aged 5-13 yrs old, due to space restrictions places will be limited so we would request that parents get their registrations forms returned to any of the Juvenile Coaches as soon as possible so we can plan a great few days.
