U14 Div4 FL 2012 v Emerald Sarsfields. Toome’s U14 juveniles defeated the Emeralds on 19th in a high scoring league game in ideal conditions, on a magnificently appointed Blackhill pitch. Toome continued their winning streak, but the final score did not do justice to the brave efforts of the home side. The visitors won every quarter by 1-6 to 0-2, 1-7 to 0-2, 2-3 to 0-3 and o-8 to 0-0, respectfully.Net minder, Gabby, kept a clean sheet and cleared his lines well. Charlie McDonnell was his usual effective self and had a few excellent, goal saving blocks. Mark Byrne was dependable under pressure and made some telling clearances. James Wilson was, on paper, at right half back, but in reality; he was everywhere, defending, attacking and generally directing operations. His score tally (3-10), tells its own story. Each of his goals was of an extremely high standard – all of which were similarly executed – powerfully hit low shots to the corner of the net. Frank Connolly was a significant contributor in the middle third, largely dominating the area and linking up extremely well with James. His goal was particularly well taken. Stephen Blessing grafted, defended and attacked with great determination, and he helped himself to two valuable points. He supported Frank really well. Keane O’Reilly was particularly active –strong in the tackle, linked up well with his runners and scored two excellent points. Kevin McCoy is also blossoming into an excellent prospect and is showing loads of natural talent. He is always good for a couple of scores. He won’t be pushed around either! Killian Ruddy was always “in the thick of things” up front, took up some clever positions and scored a superb point. Joseph Harte is a committed trier and showed some subtle touches in the corner. The super subs were introduced in the final quarter and brought a new energy to the proceedings, Igor with his deft interceptions, Andrew with his accurate foot passes and Sam, with his no nonsense, matter-of-fact approach. Team- Gabriel Wojtas, Charlie McDonnell, Mark Byrne, James Wilson (3-10), Kevin Tibby, Frank Connolly (1-5), Stephen Blessing (0-2), Keane O’Reilly (0-2), Kevin McCooey (0-2), Killian Ruddy (0-1), Joseph Harte. Subs- Igor Wojtas, Andrew Connolly, Sam Dyas. Toome, who is topping the table at present, is four points ahead of their nearest rivals, is away to Tyholland at 12 noon, on Saturday 30th June.See you there
U16Div2FL2012. Carrick v Toome In the top-of-the table clash, played out in Emmett Park on 21st June, the local Emmetts outgunned a brave Toome combination by 2-6 to 0.5. Both teams served up a highly competitive, high octane brand of football, in a ding dong if, at times, tetchy battle, where the result was in doubt until the final whistle. The thread worn axiom that ‘goals win matches’, was never more convincingly demonstrated, than on last Thursday night. With 8 minutes left on the clock in the second half, Carrick was leading by 2 points, when a well worked Carrick movement found a forward five metres from goal, who blasted the ball into the top corner of the Toome net. A Carrick point, four minutes later, closed out the game. The first half was of a frantic nature and possession was about even between the teams. The powerhouse, that was Toome’s Aaron Kelly, clocked up two hard earned points in the 9th and 11 minutes. The tackling was intense and time on the ball was at a premium with both sides. The Emmetts shooting was erratic; they were finding it difficult to hit the target, and it was 12 minutes before they registered their first point. Aaron drove Toome further ahead with an exceptional point from a sideline free. With 4 minutes left to half time, a mistake, resulting from a short kick out in the Toome rearguard, gifted the ball to an incoming forward, who found the net from close range. The impetus was now with Carrick, who completed the first half with points in the 28th and 31st minutes.Half time score – Carrick 1-3, Toome 0-3.Emmetts opened the second half with a minor after 2 minutes. The Red’s inimitable James Wilson, orchestrated and tapped over points on the 4th and 15th minutes. Toome kept in touch and possession was equally shared. The Toome defending had been outstanding during this period. However, on the 17th minute, Carrick posted a point before they finally delivered the killer blow, already referenced. In goal, Hugo Connolly made some timely clearances- he brought off two particularly fine saves in the second half. Frank Connolly, Darragh McKenna and Mickey Connolly formed a solid full back line and were extremely effective. Mark McMahon, Ciaran McCooey and Ryan Murphy were outstanding, both in defense and attack. Sean McMahon, as usual, worked tirelessly, acquitted himself with distinction in the mid field area and continues to show leadership qualities. The ever eager Kieran Blessing gave him tenacious assistance all through. Aaron Kelly had a massive game. He found himself, at times being triple marked but he still managed to break through on most occasions. He was the driving force behind Victors. James Wilson took his scores brilliantly and, as usual, popped up all over the place to good effect. Danny Friskey’s commitment can never be questioned and gave a wholehearted performance. Keane O’Reilly played well -was continually changing positions, shaking off his marker, and foraging for opportunities. The club welcomes the Cole bothers, Francis and Brendan, who performed admirably on their first outing. Team – Hugo Connolly, Frank Connolly, Darragh McKenna, Micky Connolly, Mark McMahon, Ciaran McCooey, Ryan Murphy, Sean McMahon, Kieran Blessing, James Wilson, Aaron Kelly, Danny Friskey, Luke Murtagh, Conan McGovern, Mark Byrne. (Luke, Conan and Mark were substituted by late comers Keane O’Reilly, and the Cole brothers.
