U14FC2012.v Tyholland. Toome U14’s commenced their championship campaign with a deserved win over Tyholland by 4-17 to 3-12, in St Victors Park on 29/05/12, in ideal weather conditions. Both teams served up a non –stop, free flowing, highly competitive encounter, containing some splendid moves and excellent scores. In goal, Sam Dykes brought off some very good saves and his kick outs were of a high standard. He got great cover from his excellent full backs, John Gorman and Charlie McDonnell, both of whom were very effective. Stephen Blessing and Kevin Tibby continually caught the eye with their workmanlike performances. Frank Connolly (1-5) steadied the ship in the early stages with a well taken goal and continued to impress thereafter. Bartec’s (1-0) work rate was really impressive and his goal was well worked and executed. Keane 0’Reilly (1-2) had a memorable game and showed touches of real class. Kevin McCooey (0-3) grows in confidence with every game and his three points were expertly taken. Joseph Harte and Killian Ruddy are also improving as the season progresses and contributed to the overall team performance.James Wilson (1-6) missed out on two quarters due to tummy bug sickness.  Bravely, he came on for the second quarter. His impact was immediate; his presence reenergised the whole team, he recorded 0 -5 marvelous points, putting the Reds into the ascendancy. He sat out the 3th quarter and reemerged for last period and, immediately, rattled the Tyholland net, which closed out the game. James certainly deserves his ‘Star Man’ rating.Supersubs Andrew Connolly (0-1) and Igor, made good impressions and have very bright futures ahead of them. Substitute- Gabby.See the Monaghan GAA webpage for details of club fixtures, results and tables.

U14FL2012. v Latton; After the excitement of the Championship, football for Toome U14’S reverted to the less intensive league fare, when the they continued on their winning streak on Saturday, 2/06/12, defeating Latton in St Victors Park by 1-22 to 0 -12.   A very inform Frank Connolly, set out the Toome stall with a goal within one minute of the throw in; he added a further 0 – 5, James Wilson, Stephen Blessing and Kevin McCooey contributed a point apiece. The initial quarter ended with the home side ahead by 1- 5 to 0 -0.  The second period followed in a similar trend with white flag being raised by James (0 -5), Frank, Keane O’Reilly, 0- 1 each. Latton improved noticeably in this period and ratcheted up 4 points.Toome led   1-12, Latton 0 – 04 after two quarters. In the second half, Latton’s improvement continued but Toome ran out comfortable winners in the end.In goal, Gabby seized his opportunity with both hands and had a “stormer” of a game. Mark Byrne was reliable and steady. John Gorman (0.3) defended terrier-like, and made time to attack and score. Captain Stephen Blessing (0-1) led his troops by example, helping himself to a score in the process. Charlie McDonnell, as usual, hoovered up everything within his zone. Frank (1-9), lorded it midfield and continually drove forward, earning himself a total of 12 points and “Star Man” status.  James (0-6) drifted all over the field, intercepting and orchestrating movements and bagging himself half dozen excellent scores.Kevin McCooey (0-2) took up a number of clever positions and executed his scores like a seasoned expert. Keane (0-1) was most effective in his link play and was unlucky with some attempts on goal.Igor and Joe Harte continue to work extremely hard.Substitute Killian Ruddy and Andrew both contributed handsomely.
