Seniors: The Championship game against Currin has been rescheduled for Sunday, July 1st at Clontibret with an 8pm throw-in time. PLEASE NOTE THE TIME CHANGE. The game will be part of a double-header with the Ballybay v Carrickmacross replay on before it at 6.30pm. The next League game is a home fixture against Clontibret on Friday, July 6th.
B Team: The B team defeated Latton at Páirc Mhuire last Tuesday evening with a score of 3-14 to 2-7. Castleblayney (away) are the next opponents on July 4th at Oram, throwing in at 8pm.
Crawley Cup: The C team secured the championship on Friday night last with a hard fought win over Oram in the Crawley Cup Final. Some excellent free-taking from Adrian Carbin built the platform for the victory, along with an opportunistic goal from captain Ciaran Corrigan which proved to be the difference between the sides at the end. An Oram goal with twelve minutes to go threatened to swing the game their way, but Scotstown’s greater experience told, and they finished strongly to win in the end by 1-11 to 1-8. Well done to the players and the management team of Gene McCarey and Seamus Mullen on a well deserved success. Scotstown team: 1. Cian Mohan; 2. Conor Boylan, 21. Niall Sherry, 4. Niall Corrigan (0-1); 5. Mark Corrigan, 6. Damien McKenna, 7. Adrian Carbin (0-4), 8. Niall McCarville (0-2), 29. Damien F McKenna, 10. Shane Rice, 11. Gerard Corrigan (0-1), 12. Ross McKenna; 13. Paul Sherlock (0-1), 14. Declan McCarville (0-1), 15. Ciaran Corrigan (1-0). Substitutes used: 18. Matthew McCague, 26. Mark McKenna, 22. Elliot Maguire (0-1), 28. Gavin Turley, 19. Christopher McAleer.
Recreational Football: The recreational club are running a parish league on the weekend of the 30th of June. For anyone who is interested in taking part, please contact Mark Mullen on 086-1732603.
Under 21’s: The Under 21’s have started the season with two wins from their first two games. Monaghan Harps were the visitors to Páirc Mhuire on Wednesday last, and despite a stong second half effort from the Harps, Scotstown were well worth their 0-15 to 1-7 win. Truagh were the opponents last Saturday evening at St. Mellan’s. Despite the fact that five of the team had been in action the previous evening in the Crawley Cup Final victory, they showed no ill effects and worked hard to secure a narrow one point victory by 1-13 to 2-9.
Minors: Minor League Division One action resumed on Tuesday evening with an away win at Killanny by 2-9 to 1-9. The lads are in action again next Tuesday, July 3rd in a home league fixture versus Clontibret at 8pm.
Under 16’s: The B teams fixture scheduled for last Thursday evening was conceded by Inniskeen. The A team defeated Killanny at home by 3-9 to 2-4, which keeps Scotstown top of the table. Killanny are the opposition again this evening (Thursday) for the return fixture away from home – throw-in is at 7pm. The B team have a home game against Killevan this evening at 7pm.
Under 14’s: Our U-14’s represented our parish and their county in Féile na nÓg last weekend with pride and distinction. They were out of luck in their opening game against Rhode (Offaly), losing to a last minute point in extremely difficult playing conditions. The wet underfoot surface, along with a strong cross-field breeze made life difficult for both teams, and lead to a low scoring encounter with the hosts shading it by 0-4 to 0-3. On Saturday morning we got into our stride, playing some excellent football to overcome Na Fianna (Offaly) on a scoreline of 3-7 to 4-1. The Scotstown players produced an exceptional display in our final group game, beating the Roscommon champions St. Ciaran’s by 5-10 to 0-0. Unfortunately, our opening defeat proved costly as Rhode progressed to the semi-final where they lost to competition winners Naomh Éanna (Wexford).
Well done also to our skills participant Leonard McDermott, who won his group and finished runner-up in his division to the eventual overall winner Cathal Myers from the Éire Óg Club in Carlow.
Under 12’s: The Division One team drew with neighbours Truagh away on Thursday evening last, while the B team made the trip to Oram on Saturday and defeated Emerald Sarsfields with a good display of attacking football. The next round of games will take place on Saturday, July 7th.
County Teams: There were mixed fortunes for the county footballers against Down on Sunday last – congratulations to the minors on making it through to the Ulster Minor Final, and commiserations to the seniors on their narrow defeat. James Turley and the Hughes brothers featured for the senior team, while Conor Forde and Conor McCarthy starred for the minors.
The Ned Run: The second annual 5 mile charity run will take place on Saturday, August 4th. The first of a number of training sessions for the race will take place at 4pm this Saturday, June 30th at the Kilmore East training grounds. Runners and walkers of all abilities are welcome to attend. The official race launch night will take place at the Social Club at the Complex on July 14th.
