CLUB NOTES
12th June 2012
Monaghan Electrical Intermediate League
Our senior team played Doohamlet last Sunday 10th June and a late free-kick converted by Lorcan Smyth ensured our senior team shared the spoils in a highly entertaining game of football. The match was played on a beautiful day and the league leaders Doohamlet were the quickest out of the blocks and during the opening exchanges they were the better team as they totally dominated and quickly established a 0-5 to 0-0 advantage after thirteen minutes. At this stage it looked anything but promising as we looked nervous and struggled to get into the game and one could have thought that we were suffering from the proverbial “SMS” (Sunday Morning Syndrome) but after a gloomy first quarter the lads dug deep and showed their true character most effectively to produce a remarkable hard-working performance to lead 0-7 to 1-6 at the midway point. When play resumed we looked sharp and with ten minutes of the second half played we stretched our advantage to five points, leading 0-9 to 2-8, but a strong and assertive Doohamlet side fought back and regained the lead going into the last six minutes 1-12 to 2-8. Thankfully we were able to recover our composure and Lorcan Smyth converted the free-kick to level proceedings, 1-12 to 2-9. There were plenty of nervous moments during the closing stages of the game as both sides had opportunities to take the lead but no team added to their tally and the match ended all square with both teams content with a share of the spoils. The final score Doohamlet 1-12 Rockcorry 2-9. Please visit www.rockcorrygaa.ie for a full match report and to view a selection of action photographs.

Under 14 Team
Our under 14 team played Clontibret B in the semi-final of the championship on Tuesday 5th June at Pairc Naomh Mhuire and despite shooting many wides they still managed to have three points to spare on the sound of the final whistle as they secured the win with a great performance on a score-line Rockcorry 2-8 Clontibret 2-5. Speaking to our team manager Felix Granaghan after the game he stated “those lads were brilliant tonight. This is a team game and those lads put ever thing they had into the game, they worked extremely hard for each other and that’s what it all about”. I would also like to echo those comments because this was a real team effort where one to eleven played their part. Kyle Brannigan in goals made some outstanding saves and delivered his kick-outs with pin-point accuracy. The defenders including Gareth Smith, Patrick James, Caolan McPhillips and Damien West marshalled and confined their opponents in good style. The midfielders Caolon Gallagher and Mark Duffy covered every blade of grass while the forwards, Pauric O’Brien, Vincent O’Brien, Gavin West and Morgan Tate-McGeough created and took some excellent scores. This Saturday the under 14 team has a home game against Clontibret B, this time in the league campaign, and throw-in time is 12 noon. Please visit www.rockcorrygaa.ie for a selection of action shots.
Under 14 Championship Final

Under 12 Competitive League
Our under 12 team continued their good form with a fine performance against Aghabog last Saturday 9th June. The team had to work hard to turn possession into scores against a very determined Aghabog side and after the first period we enjoyed a slender one point lead, leading 1-4 to 1-3. The game continued at a fast pace and both teams displayed some very good skills and clocked up a brace of scores during a tough and closely fought encounter but thankfully in the end our wee brave-hearts dug deep to secure the victory on a score-line Rockcorry 5-8 Aghabog 4-6. Their next match is against Killeevan on Saturday 23rd June at 12 noon.
