Latton GFC Notes – Week Beginning 11th June 2012

* Senior Football

We played Blayney in Oram on Sunday 10th. In a low scoring first half Latton struggled at times with the pace of the Blayney forwards. A P Shannon goal after a mistake by the Blayney goalkeeper kept Latton in touch at half time. Half time score Blayney 1-4 Latton 1-2. Blayney had a player sent off after receiving a second yellow card 5 min into the second half. Latton used the extra man well and a H Mc Elory goal after a great pass from S Coyle give latton a lead that they worked hard to hold on to until the end. Blayney 1-13 Latton 2-11.Best for Latton E Lennon, A Farmer, O Lennon, H Mc Elory.  Team & Scorers: S.Farmer, J Nixon, E.Lennon, O Coyle (1pt), S.Fitzpatrick (1pt), K.Duffy, D O’ Brian, A Farmer. Committee Meeting

A meeting of the Executive Committee will take place Thursday 21st at 9 0’ clock.

Minor football

We have a break in football because of the leaving cert exams our next game is away to Rock Sarsfields on Tue 26th June, training continues as normal.

U-14 Championship

Our U-14 team are saving their best football for championship time. They travelled to Killeevan last Tuesday evening to play the semi-final. Killeeven got the better of the first two quarters and were leading by 5pts at half time. Latton held Killeeven scoreless in the third quarter but could only reduce the margin by one point to leave them down by 4pts going into the last quarter. Latton played their best football in the last quarter, with S West hitting 2 goals in a good all-around team performance that saw them win by 5pts. Latton 3-12 Killeevan 2-09  . Team: D Quinn. U-12  V-Ballybay

It doesn’t matter what the age group when we play Ballybay there is always great rivalry and Saturday’s game was no exception, with both teams providing great entertainment in a fast high scoring game. Latton had a great first half and were leading by 10pts at half time. Ballybay worked hard and hit some great scores in the second half but Latton held on win by 3pts at the end. Latton 4-11 Ballybay 2-14 Best for Latton D Dempsey, A Mulligan.

Presentation night

U-16

Our next game is away to Carrick 7th July, training continues as normal.

Grant Application

The committee would like to thank everyone that was involved in preparing and submitting our application for the 2012 sports capital programme grant, especially Ronan O’ Brian, Sean Og Flood and Owenie Sulliven.

U-8  &  U-10

The U-8 were in Emyvale last Sat morning for the second blitz of the year, we were lucky got a good morning and the standard of football was very high. Thank you to Emyvale for organising the blitz and to all the parents who drove and came to support the kids. The U-10 travel to Emyvale this weekend for their blitz.  Training Friday evenings from 6 to 7.  Any parents who are not getting text messages about training contact juvenile management.

U-21 Football

The year kicks off for our U-21 footballers on Wednesday 20th away to Emerald Sarsfields, time and venue to be decided.
