Carrickmacross Notes

Senior

Its not over till its over. And thankfully the Carrick Emmets senior team battled to the very end and earned a well deserved draw against Ballybay on Sunday evening last in Aughnamullen. It was from the boot of Cillian Cromwell, who surged through the middle of the field, and scored the point to level the game in the last few seconds of injury time.

The game was unusually delayed to allow for late comers and started 5 minutes late. With a big crowd in attendance the first few minutes saw Ballybay and Carrick exchange points from play and from frees. It was Ballybay who were settled better into this game but the Emmets defenders chased and tackled for every ball making life difficult for the Ballybay forwards to score. The Emmets continued to apply pressure and were rewarded for their efforts, as they went in 5-4 up at half time.

The second half saw Ballybay score first and level matters. Ballybay continued to mount attacks and score some nice points. A defensive lapse gifted Ballybay a goal with 15min remaining to put Ballybay 3 points ahead. The Emmets responded with determination and this involved Mark McNally and Cillian Cromwell making powerful runs through the middle of the field resulting in scores.  With the announcement of 3 minutes of extra time the Emmets rallied and continued to apply pressure with both Ciaran Ward and James Conlon making great runs on goal only for their efforts to be inches wide. With 30 seconds remaining and down by a point it was Cillian Cromwell who fired a shot from just inside the 45 to secure a deserved draw for the Emmets. This was a battling team performance with each player running and tackling to the very end. Well done to players and management.

All club members are asked to watch out for a silver Bora in the emmets grounds. Any sightings contact Declan Finnegan.
