County Senior Team
Saturday sees the start of this years Championship campaign when Monaghan travel to Kingspan Breffni Park to meet Cavan who are still reeling in their Ulster Junior Championship Final win over Armagh. The Farney girls suffered a severe defeat at the hands of Cavan earlier in the year when they were defeated in the League. Monaghan have been promoted to Junior A status and face an uphill battle against Counties Tyrone, Dublin, Cavan, Westmeath and Offaly when they will line out without quite a few of their key players, One of these being Isobel Kieran who received a severe 6 match suspension for an” attempted strike” the referee’s words! in the Junior B All Ireland Final which Monaghan won back to back last year.
Throw in time 2.30pm.
Fitzpatricks Coaches Senior Camogie League
With exams all done and dusted its time to get down to camogie once again and Tuesday last saw the resumption of the Fitzpatricks Coaches Senior Camogie League when Castleblayney were at home to Inniskeen and Truagh travelled to Clontibret.
Inniskeen claimed their first points in the League when they defeated Castleblayney in an evenly contested affair, the difference being that Inniskeen were sharper to the ball and were able to convert scores. Linda Callan opened the scoring with 2 points early in the first half and Julli Anne Finnegan added another shortly after, while Lorraine Casey and Carmel Mc. Skeane stamped their names on two goals. ‘Blayney’s Amber Lam replied with a point and Donna Forde got one past the Inniskeen goalkeeper.
Final Score Inniskeen 2 – 3
C’ Blayney 1 – 1
Back in the Northern end of the County the gap was wider when Clontibret maintained their unbeaten record when they defeated Truagh. An early goal and a point from Michele Morgan and with Ailbhe Boyle contributing a point in the first few minutes kept the visitors chasing for the entire match. Mairead Mc. Carron answered with a converted free.
Michelle Morgan who was in fine scoring form for the O’Neills added another point in the 15th minute and Marie Greenan converted a free .Two minutes later a rebounded puck out from Donna Moen landed over the bar. Morgan added another goal five minutes later before the referee called a penalty for the Gaels for an infringement in the small square, Lorraine Tierney placed it safely over the bar.
Truagh were off target wasting several scoring opportunities before Mary Meehan put her name on a point half way through the second half. Michelle Morgan and Marie Greenan added a further two points and the capable Morgan finished with a goal and a point.
Final Score: Clontibret 3 – 9
