Truagh Notes

May 8th, 2012

Seniors: We came away with a draw from our away match with Ballybay last Wednesday 0-8 to 1-5. Ballybay had 4 wins from 4 going into the game, hitting high scoring averages in each game. However, with the tightness of the Truagh defence and missed opportunities up front from both sides, this game turned into a very low scoring affair. Ballybay opened the scoring with 2 points inside the first 4 minutes and it wasn’t until the 17th minute when the next score of the match came, Chrissy McKenna converting a free to open our account. Ballybay added another point in the 22nd minute before Darren Todd reduced the margin to a point a minute later. Goal chances were spurned on both sides during this half and even allowing considerable injury time, the half time whistle was blown to a lowly score of Ballybay 0-3 Truagh 0-2. Adam Treanor opened the scoring in the second half with a point after 35 minutes, before Mark Counihan converted a free to put us ahead for the first time in the game in the 42nd minute. Adam Treanor added another in the 43rd minute to push the margin further. However, this lead was overturned in the 46th minute when Ballybay were awarded a penalty and duly scored. This was followed by another Ballybay point a minute later. Chrissy McKenna pulled back a point in the 49th minute before the home side struck again in the 51st minute to go 2 ahead. Being in a similar position before in recent games, this Truagh team again refused to accept defeat and brought the scores level with 5 minutes remaining after points from Gary Todd and a Mark Counihan free. Both sides had a number of attempts to win the match outright, but the final whistle blew with honours even, Ballybay 1-5 Gaeil Triucha 0-8. Our team and scorers were: Ian Treanor; John McCarron, Niall Feely, Aidan Coyle; Paudie McKenna, Damian McRory, Justin Halligan; Pauric Treanor, Niall McQuillan; Niall Coyle, Rory Treanor, Adam Teanor (0-2); Christopher McKenna (0-2, 1f), Paddy McKenna, Darren Todd (0-1). Subs Used: Gary Todd (0-1) for Paddy McKenna (16mins), Mark Counihan (0-2f) for Darren Todd (39mins), Brendan Treanor for Niall Coyle  (49mins) & Niall Coyle for Aidan Coyle (58mins). Our next match is this Friday 11th May away to Latton at 7.30pm.  We follow this with another away match against Clontibret on Sunday 13th May at 5pm.
