U16FLD2 v Clontibret. 2012. Toome U16’s continued on their winning ways with a convincing 2-20 to 1-6 victory over a very determined Clontibret side, in a sun – drenched St. Victor’s Park, on 24/05/12. Goals by a very impressive Sean McMahon, and, the equally dominant Aaron Kelly, in the 15th and 18th minutes, without reply, set the game trend. A further 2 points from Sean, three from Aaron and one from James Wilson, gave the Reds a comfortable lead of 2-7 to 0.4 at the interval. Clontibret raised their game on the resumption, tagging on 1-1 within the first ten minutes but the home side responded with some outstanding points, particularly from Aaron and Ciaran McCooey and, in the last ten minutes, James and Ryan Murphy gave an exhibition in the art of astute positioning and accurate point scoring.      This was a team victory. Every player played his part; Hugo Connolly instills tremendous confidence – one particular save in the second half was simply brilliant. Barteck, Darragh McKenna and Micky Connolly were rock solid and consistent throughout. Ryan Murphy, (0-3), Danny Friskey and Mark McMahon, were most effective in defending, and providing the springboard for most of the attacks. Sean McMahon (1-2) was in powerful form. Kieran Blessing gets through an amount of work. The ever dependable Frank Connolly, the wonderfully accurate Aaron Kelly (1-7), and the elusive Ciaran McCooey (0-2), were most effective. James Wilson (0-6) displayed a wide range of his natural talents; one point off his left foot from the right side after 50 minutes was very special.   Conan McGovern and Luke Murtagh made life difficult for the opposing backs. Mark Byrne faired very well when he replaced Barteck at half time.St. Victors head the league table with a game in hand, over Carrick, whom they meet in Emmett Park on their next outing, on the 21st June.Your support would be welcomed.See you there!
