Sean Mac Diarmada Notes 24-5-12
The Rewind:
The club was honoured to have RTE Sunday Game pundit and All-Ireland winning Meath star Colm O’Rourke officially launch ‘The Rewind’- the club’s 50 year history DVD last Saturday night. Some highlights were shown on the night and the initial reaction suggests that the DVD is a must for every house in the parish and anyone with any association with the club at home or abroad. Colm was a truly engaging speaker who gave an inspiring talk about the importance of the GAA club in a rural community and added in some colourful tales of his playing days and his work as a pundit. Thank you to all who attended a great night in the club lounge and thanks to Colm O’Rourke for being so kind with his time on the night as he took time to talk to everyone. The DVD features interviews with the surviving members of the first club committee. It also chronicles the club’s achievements on the playing field from the early decades up to 2011. Old video footage stretching back to the 1970s will take viewers on a nostalgic trip down memory lane and it features photographs dating back as far as the 1920s. The DVD shows how the Seans club has been the lifeblood of the community for 50 years and features all aspects of the club including achievements in ladies football, refereeing, Scor, indoor bowls, fundraising and much more. Among the highlights on the DVD are Seamus McCormick’s story of the first Seans v Aghabog game, the Seans ‘great escape’ to come back from being over 10 points and a man down to beat Latton in 1988, the opening of the complex in 1990, the All-Ireland Scor Sinsear win in 1998, the 2002 Intermediate Championship win over Carrick, the hilarious commentary on the 2003 Ulster final win over Drumgoon and much more. The club’s DVD committee of Ailish McEntee, Cormac Connolly, Eamon Mulligan, Gerry Lynch, David Treanor, Sean McElvaney, Ciaran McEntee and Conor McMorrow put a lot of work into this important piece of history for over a year so everyone is encouraged to buy it. The two-DVD set which was professionally produced by Lavery Photo & Video in Emyvale has a beautifully designed cover by our own Eunan McEntee and is available in all local shops for €20.
