Sean Mac Diarmada Notes 17-5-12
Special Thanks:
On behalf of CLG Sean Mac Diarmada, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Conor Mc Morrrow on his contribution to the production of the club’s jubilee history. His time since last summer has exclusively been consumed by this exemplar production. Although there was a group of people behind the production, it always takes one person to lead and to drive the team on in the right direction. His attention to detail and diplomacy when carrying out this task was second to none. This last five months he has spent at least two days per week with Fausto Lavery in the editing process, never mind the time spent compiling photos, old video tapes and articles from scrap books. Special thanks also to Niamh Mc Mahon who ably assisted Conor in the infancy of the project. Conor carried out this work while working full time and Niamh who is currently studying for her finals, both of which in Dublin. The old saying springs to mind yet again; “if you need something done, ask a busy person”.
The Rewind:
The club was honoured to have RTE Sunday Game pundit and All-Ireland winning Meath star Colm O’Rourke officially launch ‘The Rewind’- the club’s 50 year history DVD last Saturday night. Some highlights were shown on the night and the initial reaction suggests that the DVD is a must for every house in the parish and anyone with any association with the club at home or abroad. Colm was a truly engaging speaker who gave an inspiring talk about the importance of the GAA club in a rural community and added in some colourful tales of his playing days and his work as a pundit. Thank you to all who attended a great night in the club lounge and thanks to Colm O’Rourke for being so kind with his time on the night as he took time to talk to everyone. The DVD features interviews with the surviving members of the first club committee. It also chronicles the club’s achievements on the playing field from the early decades up to 2011. Old video footage stretching back to the 1970s will take viewers on a nostalgic trip down memory lane and it features photographs dating back as far as the 1920s. The DVD shows how the Seans club has been the lifeblood of the community for 50 years and features all aspects of the club including achievements in ladies football, refereeing, Scor, indoor bowls, fundraising and much more. Among the highlights on the DVD are Seamus McCormick’s story of the first Seans v Aghabog game, the Seans ‘great escape’ to come back from being over 10 points and a man down to beat Latton in 1988, the opening of the complex in 1990, the All-Ireland Scor Sinsear win in 1998, the 2002 Intermediate Championship win over Carrick, the hilarious commentary on the 2003 Ulster final win over Drumgoon and much more. The club’s DVD committee of Ailish McEntee, Cormac Connolly, Eamon Mulligan, Gerry Lynch, David Treanor, Sean McElvaney, Ciaran McEntee and Conor McMorrow put a lot of work into this important piece of history for over a year so everyone is encouraged to buy it. The two-DVD set which was professionally produced by Lavery Photo & Video in Emyvale has a beautifully designed cover by our own Eunan McEntee and is available in all local shops for €20.
DVD QUIZ COMPETITION:
Congratulations to underage stars Josh and Damon Hagan on winning the first copy of ‘The Rewind’ DVD. Their grandfather Vincent has been at the heart of the club since the beginning in 1961 and their father Stephen was a star player before taking up refereeing in recent years. Josh and Damon got all 10 questions correct in the five-week quiz and their father Stephen was presented with the DVD by Colm O’Rourke at Saturday’s launch night.
