Monaghan’s minor hurlers completed a rare double when they added the Ulster Minor Hurling Shield to the Ulster Minor Hurling Leaue Division Two title on Wednesday evening. The Farney men ran out deserving winners over Fermanagh in the final in Clones on a scoreline of 2-11 to 2-6 to secure a second piece of silverware in 2012. An early goal by dual star Brian Greenan sent Monaghan on their way and with Niall Garland also in accurate form from frees and from play, they never trailed. Garland finished with 1-8, while Kevin Crawley and Brendan McQuaid also chipped in with a point each to ensure there was no Fermanagh comeback.
The Monaghan team against Fermanagh was: Niall Butler; Noel Flood, Cormac McNally, Cathal Mc Anespie; Colm Meegan, Kevin Crawley (0-1), Conor Boyle; Jamie Guinan, Raymond McNally; Donal Meegan, Brian Greenan (1-1), Niall Garland (1-8, 0-6f), Tony Forde, Kevin Duffy, Brendan McQuaid (0-1).
Congratulations to Frank Brady, Arthur Hughes, Alan Ryan and the panel: Niall Butler and Donal Meegan (Inniskeen); Noel Flood, Cathal McAnespie, Conor Boyle, Christopher McAnenly, Niall Rooney and Conor Treanor (Truagh); Cormac McNally, Niall Garland, Tony Forde, Kevin McCooey and Luke Adair (Castleblayney); Jamie Guinan and Kevin Crawley (Carrickmacross HC); Liam Savage, Aodh Curran, Kevin Duffy, Michael O’Dowd, Cillian McDonald and Shane Mooney (Clontibret); Brendan McQuaid and Conor O’Neill (Monaghan Harps).
