Reserve championship

On Friday evening 18th we played Magheracloone at home in the quarter final of the O’Duffy cup. Missing 3 of our regular starters through injury, we went down by 2 points in what proved a high scoring, entertaining game. It was a frustrating performance though, as we led by 4 points at key stages in both halves but failed to capitalise & seal our advantage. Despite an early excellently-taken Christopher Rice goal, it was a more determined Magheracloone side, with the wind in their favour, who led at the break 1-3 to 1-5. It was a nip-tuck second-half where the game could have gone either way. Martin O’Brien showed a good return to form with 3 points & unfortunately Brendan Lennon’s impressive tally of 2-3 wasn’t enough to see off a strong Magheracloone finish.

Final Score: Latton 3-7 Magheracloone 2-12

Team: S.McKenna, K.Farrelly, J.Kingston(c), C.Lynch, E.Lennon, P.Fitzpatrick, J.Nixon, P.Conlan, K.Conlan, P.Shannon, M.O’Brien(3pts), C.Rice(1-1), M.Duffy, B.Lennon(2-3,2f), R.Conlon.

Our focus now turns to the league with 2 games in quick succession: Away v Blayney on May 23rd & Home v Tyholland on the 25th.

Minors

After a couple of bad results our minor team got their year back on track last Tuesday evening with a good win against Sean mc Dermotts. Playing against a strong wind in the first half the Latton defence worked hard and limited Sean’s to few scoring chances. A first half goal from Darren mc Elroy helped Latton to a strong lead at the break. Using the wind Latton kicked some good scores and when Darren mc Elroy scored a penalty after the lively Conor Lynch was pulled down in the square the game was out of Seans’ reach.

Team & scorers: K, Shannon. A, mc Guire. C, Lynch. P, mc Guinness. G, mc Elroy. C, Rice. D J, mc Mahon. J, mc Elroy 5pts. R, Conlan. E, mc Geogh 1pt. M, Duffy 2pts. T, Lynch. P, Black. D, mc Elroy 3-3. C, Lynch. Subs used: G, mc Elory. Roy, Abida. Everyone on the minor team hopes our Spanish student Roy enjoyed his stay in Ireland and his time with Latton GFC. We wish him well.

U-16

We play Carrickmacross away this evening (Thursday 24th). Good luck to the lads as they seek a much-needed win.
