Latton GFC Notes – Week Beginning 7th May 2012

Reserve championship

We played Truagh at home in the o,duffy cup on Friday evening, played in windy conditions both teams were guilty of missing some easy chances ,latton went in at half time lucky to be leading by 1pt. Truagh scored a penalty early in the second half, Latton responded well and with a Mark Duffy goal and some good points from play went into a 5pt lead. Latton were reduced to 14 men with ten minutes left when Karl Conlan got sent off on two yellow cards. The latton defence worked hard to limit Truaghs chances to long range efforts and the lads held on for a one point win .Best for Latton : S mc Kenna . K,  Farelly.  J, Kinston, C, Lynch. Senior football

We play Truagh at home on Friday 11th May and away to newly promoted currin on sun 13th.

Gaelic life

In this week’s edition of Gaelic life out today Latton feature as club of the week in Ulster, in a two page spread Latton secretary Francis Ward gives an in-depth look at the highs and lows of Latton GFC and life in senior football.

Committee Meeting

A meeting of the Executive Committee will take place tonight (Thursday) at 9 o’ clock.

Minor league

Latton played Magheracloone at home on Tue evening, Magheracloone adapted best to the blustery conditions and scored two goals before half time to lead by 5pts at the break. A physical second half seen Magheracloone reduced to 14 men but they held on for a 2pt win. Score: Latton 0-13 Magheracloone 2-09 we play at home to seans on the 15th.

U-8

The first U -8 blitz of the year will take place in latton on Sat 12th of May at 10 o’clock.  Any parents who are not getting text messages about training contact juvenile management.

Training for all under 10 girls and boys on Friday evening at 6 o’clock.

 

All-Ireland championship preview

On Saturday 12th May in the Gaa social club we will hold our preview night for the 2012 championship. Special guest include: Oisin mc Conville, Enda mc Ginley, Bryan Cullen, Darren Hughes, Seanie Johnston. Tickets from any committee member, or at the door on the night. Admission €15, Refreshments served. Photo opportunities from 8.00pm.

We played Magheracloone at home on Tue evening, Latton worked hard against a strong Magheracloone team but in the end lost by 6pts.  Training on Tuesday evenings at 6-30. Finals day in Cloghan on 12th May.

Club membership

At the home game on Fri 11th May there will be an opportunity for anyone who has not already paid to pay there club membership. Club registrar Mickey Duffy will be available before and after the game receive your membership, new members welcome.

In our second league game an under strength Latton team struggled against a strong Toome team that run out easy winners in the end. Our next game is at home to Truagh on 10th May.

Presentation night

A very enjoyable night was had by everyone who attended the Latton GAA  centre for the presenting of the hall of fame award to former Latton great Michael mcGeogh. Michael played most of his football at half back and was a prominent member of the J F C and Hackett cup winning teams of 1954-55, Latton GAA wishes Michael and family all the best for the future.

..  V tydavnet The third game in a week was a real cracker with both teams playing great entertain football, in a game that both teams had to win Latton came up just short losing by 2pts Latton 1-06 Tydavnet 3- 02
