Ladies Football Team of the League

By michael Thu 24th May

Fresh from their Bord Gáis Energy Ladies National Football League Division One Final win over Cork, there was more good news for Monaghan this week. Five of the players who starred on the league-winning team – goalkeeper Linda Martin, full-backs Joanne and Sharon Courtney (all Donaghmoyne), wing-forward Ciara McAnespie (Emyvale) and corner-forward Caoimhe Mohan (Truagh) all made the Ladies Team of the League, while Gregory McGonigle was rewarded for his part by being named Manager of the League.

Sharon Courtney and Ciara McAnespie are also part of the Ladies All-Star trip to Toronto, along with fellow Monaghan players Gráinne and Therese McNally and Christina Reilly. The touring party left on Wednesday and will spend a week in the Canadian city.

Meanwhile, Monaghan’s Ulster Ladies Senior Football Championship game against Tyrone has been fixed for Saturday, June 16 at 3.15pm in Ballybofey. The game will be played as the curtain-raiser to the men’s Ulster SFC clash between Donegal and Derry, so there should be a sizeable crowd at Mac Cumhaill Park.
