HARPS HANDBALL
Last Saturday proved an awesome day for our Ulster representatives at the Cumann na mBunscol National Handball day in Kingscourt.
Jakub Szkup and his partner Konrad Kowal defeated all other Provincial champions in the Under-11 Doubles, while Ryan Mooney likewise beat the champions from all three provinces to win the Under-13 Singles. This was a remarkable achievement for all three players who dropped no games en route to victory. Jakub Szkup in particular was in outstanding form in the doubles and his retrieving and backwall shots were excellent. Ryan Mooney had to dig deep in the Singles as he was up against some outstanding players especially the Clare champion, Tiernan Agnew.
The full results were as followws:
Jakub Szkup and Konrad Kowal beat Richard Lawlor and Josh Mc Mahon of Wexford 11-10, 11-3.
They then defeated Tommy Mc Neela and Sean Moughan of Galway 11-9, 11-8, and Mark Rogers and Conor Downes of Clare 11-7, 11-3.
Ryan beat Ciaran Cooney of Kilkenny 11-7, 11-9.
He then had wins over Diarmuid Mulkerrins of Galway ( 11-7, 11-2) and Tiernan Agnew of Clare 11-8, 11-9.
On Saturday Ramunas will compete in the Grogan Invitational tournament which takes place in Carrickmore and Beragh in County Tyrone. The following Saturday is set aside for our 12-hour Handball marathon which commences at 10am. All our players are welcome
to take part at any time during the day.
