Doohamlet GFC Notes

Seniors:  Our Senior team moved clear at the top of the Intermediate league last weekend with two very impressive victories away to Tyholland on Friday evening and 48 hours later a home match against Donaghmoyne.

Tyholland   1-10    Doohamlet  2-10

On a bright sunny evening Doohamlet and Tyholland served up an entertaining game with both sides playing attractive free flowing football.  Niall Connolly scored our goal in the first half to give us a three point lead at half time.

Tyholland responded well on the resumption and scored three unanswered points to draw level.  Doohamlet were dealt a blow when Ciaran McManus was shown his second yellow card and left Doohamlet with an uphill task with twenty minutes remaining.  However the introduction of Colin Walshe for his first outing since breaking his ankle turned this game on its head and Doohamlet scored 1-5 in the last quarter.  Our second goal coming from the penalty awarded to Shane McManus and rifled to the net by Colin Walshe.

Doohamlet   0-07   Donaghmoyne   1-03

After our victory on Friday evening Doohamlet returned to action on Sunday and thankfully a number of players declared themselves fit for duty.

Played in atrocious conditions throughout with a gale force wind and rain both sides must be commended for their efforts and tried to play a possession game.  Doohamlet had advantage of the wind in the first half and although they held their opponents scoreless only managed five points of their own.

Donaghmoyne in the second half went about reducing the deficit and drew level after an unstoppable shot found the Doohamlet net.  Glen Comiskey restored the lead only for Donaghmoyne to reply.  Both sides were now looking for the decisive score but Doohamlet full back Martin Hughes after a surging run had the presence of mind to fist the ball over the bar to give the home side both league points.

Injuries:  A number of players are currently on the injured list.  With the hectic schedule of games players are picking up knocks and bruises.

Ted Duffy has received a severe gash and Darren Connolly has trouble with his back.  On the good news front Gabie Casey has returned from suspension and Colin Walshe made his return to first team duty last weekend.
