Seniors:
Last weekend was the first of two ‘super weekends’ whereby teams have to play two games within three days over a weekend. Our first game was against Scotstown on Friday evening and we were well beaten by a very focused Scotstown side. Goals at the start of each half, two at the start and another immediately after the break left an insurmountable challenge too great to overcome. There were were some fine individual performances but as a whole the team underperformed on the evening and Scotstown were deserved winners.
Currin team and scorers v Scotstown:- Fergal Connolly, Sean Brady, Conor Mc Caffrey (0-1), Enda Mc Caffrey, Tommy Maguire, Ben Clerkin, Michael Quigley, Dick Clerkin, Francis O Callaghan, Niall McEntee, Ciaran Mc Caffrey, Shane O Connor, Philip O Callaghan, Kieran Kearns ,Stephen Smith (0-9, 6f). Subs: Stephen Beatty for Shane O Connor, Dara Brady for Francis O Callaghan, Paddy Mc Dermott for Niall Mc Entee.
On Sunday we entertained county champions Latton in Scotshouse. Played in very windy and difficult conditions this was the proverbial ‘game of two halves’. In the first half, against the wind, Currin excelled, shooting four super points and defensively keeping the scoring defecit to one point leaving the half time score Latton 0-5 Currin 0-4. In the second half with the elements in their favour Currin outscored the county champions by four points to one. This match was a superb team performance with everyone responding collectively to the challenge and as a result a great win was achieved. Well done to all, management, players, backroom personnel and all involved. Congratulations and well done to Latton who were gracious and magnanimous in defeat. It is an attitude like that which makes county champions, we can learn from them.

We have a break in our senior fixtures for the Ulster Senior championship with our next game scheduled for Wednesday evening 30th May away to Truagh.
Juvenile and Youth.
Well done to all the youngsters who took part in the Spring League Finals Day at Cloghan on Saturday 12th May. All photos from the Finals Day can be seen on the Monaghan GAA Website. Go on and have a look. This excellent website has all fixtures, results and league tables. There are also photos of our games and it is envisaged that other activities will be covered as the year progresses.
Also Monaghan GAA games/events can be followed on twitter. The address in @monaghangaa. Currins next U-14 fixture is in Clones on Saturday next 19th May at 12.00 p.m.
Ladies Football
Well done to our Ladies county team on their fantastic NFL Div 1 final victory over Cork in Parnell Park on Saturday last. Currin are delighted that both Ellen Mc Carron and Laura Boylan are now the proud owners of a senior All Ireland winners medal. To beat Cork in the final was described by some as ‘the icing on the cake’ or should I say in this case as ‘the tomato sauce on the chips’. This was a brilliant win again founded on a marvellous overall team performance.
Ulster Championship
Countdown to the Ulster senior championship is now in earnest, with the Monaghan / Antrim game coming up on the 27th May in Clones. The Ulster council have responded to these difficult ‘austere’ times by reducing their prices and a number of attractive pricing packages are available through the Co Board.
Also on Sunday next in Cloghan there will be the re-arranged open event to meet the county team at 12.30pm. It is hoped to have some of our young teams attend.
