Seniors

We had no game last weekend because of the bank holiday and confirmation in the village. Our next games are away this Friday 11th to Scotstown at 7.30 pm. We then have to play Latton at home on Sunday 13th at 2.00 pm in Scotshouse.  The closeness of these fixtures surely does not suit a small club like ours, and favours the bigger clubs like Scotstown and Latton.

Juvenile and Youth.

Our Under 14’s continued their league campaign against Carrickmacross last week. While Patrick Poynton scored 2 goals and 2 points, the south Monaghan team just prevailed, in a high scoring game. The next official fixture is against Clones on Saturday 19th May. Training continues as usual for all underage teams.

Ladies Football

Best of luck to our Ladies county team in  the NFL Div 1 final against Cork in Parnell Park on Saturday next 12th May. We are delighted to report that Ellen has returned from injury and we hope that both Ellen and Laura can return home with a national trophy. They deserve to get one over this Cork team.

Club Meeting

At our club meeting last week it was decided to plan for the expansion of our facilities at Coolnacarte. The development committee under the stewardship of vice-chairman, Declan,  are exploring the possibility of extending the clubhouse and providing better spectator accomodation. More about this later.

Congratulations

Well done to Stephen Smith who last Sunday played his first senior inter county game for Monaghan against Armagh in Oram. Stephen came on in the second half and scored two points. Stephen got his call up on the back of his excellent performances at senior level this year. The Smith family have a proud association with football in Currin and Monaghan. Declan, Shane and Dylan are prominent in present day Currin while Stephen’s father Sean and uncle Patsy starred in the 1960’s. The first Ulster Championship medal to come to Monaghan and Currin was won by Packie Smith in1914. This medal is still in the proud ownership of the Smith family. I wonder if another could make its way to Cavany and Currin in 2012.

Talksport for Shauna

The fundraiser ‘Talksport for Shauna’ took place last Sunday evening in Monaghan. Well done to all concerned on a great night. Dick, along with Darren Hughes were great ambassadors for their clubs, Monaghan and the GAA, unlike another contributer. We in Currin were delighted to be associated with this very deserving cause.
