Ballybay stretched their lead at the top of the Drumlin Group of Credit Unions Senior Football League to four points with Wednesday night’s draw away to Latton. The Pearse Brothers needed a late point from Christopher McGuinness to preserve their unbeaten record with a 1-9 apiece scoreline. McGuinness landed 1-4 for Ballybay in the absence of injured star Paul Finlay, while Thomas Kerr hit four points. Owen Duffy got Latton’s goal and Hugh McElroy and Bernard O’Brien were accurate from frees. Carrickmacross fell to a seven-point defeat at home to neighbours Magheracloone, who were boosted by the availability of Tommy and Damien Freeman. Castleblayney are up to third after they battled their way to a two-point win in Scotstown. The hosts scored the only goal of the game through Orin Heaphey, but Blayney, who had eight scorers including all six forwards, came back to lead by two at half-time and the teams shared six points in the second half. Clontibret had a similarly hard-fought win away to Monaghan Harps. It was nip-and-tuck all the way at Gavan Duffy Park, but eight frees by Conor McManus won it for Clontibret. The Harps had taken charge with a Liam Hahessy goal early in the second half, but McManus brought the visitors back into it and Dessie Mone kicked an important score for the second time in four days to help his side over the line. Truagh were the only home team to win on Wednesday, as they eased to victory against Currin. Truagh made a flying start with goals by Neil McRory and Mark Counihan and although Currin got a goal back, a series of points gave Truagh a convincing margin.
Emyvale joined Clones at the top of the Eurotech Junior Football League with a comfortable win in Killanny. James McAlister (two), Martin McAree and Daniel McMahon all found the net in the first half to give Emyvale a 12-point interval lead, which they maintained throughout until the final whistle.
Castleblayney started their defence of the Silver Hill Foods Senior Hurling League with a hard-earned 3-15 to 5-7 win over Monaghan Harps in a high-scoring opener. Carrickmacross kicked off with a straightforward defeat of Truagh.
