CLUB NOTES

“Rock Country & Irish Night”
The countdown is over guys and gals as the performers are in the final rehearsals before tomorrow night’s (Friday 27th April) BIG Country & Western and Irish show which promises to be on par, if not bigger and better than other shows done to date! During the week I caught up with the main event organiser Ollie McQuillan and he said “the music is just amazing”. He highlighted that “Rock Country & Irish has all the ingredients of a big Country & Western and Irish night”. He also commented on the performers stating that “we have a very talented group of singers and the audience on Friday night will be treated to a great variety of styles, with each making their own version of the song their own”. After getting a sneak preview of the CD last week I am certainly 100% in agreement and I guarantee you folks Rock Country & Irish will be a great night’s entertainment so please show your support by supporting them and buy a ticket for this event or you can pay at the door, admission a reasonable €10. So boys get those check shirts back out of the closet and girls get those legs out of the high heels and into your cowgirl boots! We want to see ya all looking your very best tomorrow night (Friday 27th April) as we dance the night away to some fabulous country & Irish classics. Local man Noel Hall will be our Master of Ceremonies and it will definitely be a Root’n, Toot’n good ole time. Yee-Ha!
Monaghan Electrical Intermediate League
Last Sunday 22nd April our senior team played Tyholland in the Monaghan Electrical intermediate league and will certainly look back on this game as two points dropped. The game, which ebbed and flowed from the start, had patches of good quality football throughout however Tyholland proved more clinical in front of goals and this was ultimately the decisive factor as they clinched victory by the narrowest of margins Rockcorry 1-13 Tyholland 1-14. Please log onto www.rockcorrygaa.ie for a full match report and a selection of action photographs. Team & Scorers: Jamie Smith, Conor McGeough, Damien Matthews, Keelan Clerkin, Stephen McGuirk, Johnny Reilly, Colin Quinn, Noel Carroll 0-1, Fergal McGeough 0-1, Garry Calvert 0-1, Paul McKeown 0-3, Dwayne Rooney, Mark McGuirk 0-2, Anthony Tate 1-1, John Greenan. GRM Minor Football League
Well done to our under minor team, Rock Sarsfields, who secured a victory after putting in a workmanlike performance in their GRM Division 2 league encounter against Cremartin (Tuesday 17th April) on a score-line 3-13 to 1-12. Last Tuesday 24th April they were schedules to play Magheracloone. Please visit www.rockcorrygaa.ie for all latest results and fixtures. Their next game is on Tuesday 1st May when they play Donaghmoyne in Killeevan at 7.30pm.
Under 16 Team
It was both a busy and disappointing week for our under 16 team who firstly played their second match of the league campaign on Thursday 19th April when they played Inniskeen at Pairc Naomh Mhuire. During the opening exchanges we struggled to get into the game as Inniskeen dominated and applied all the pressure and at the break we trailed by 1-3 to 4-3. When the game resumed the lads worked very hard and put in a credible performance and both teams were evenly matched during the second half and despite scoring an impressive 4-4 (and were unlucky not to get more score from play) this was unfortunately not enough as Inniskeen secured the victory on a score-line Rock Emmets 5-7 Inniskeen 8-7. Secondly, last Monday evening (23rd April), as the sun set, they played their third match of the league campaign when they entertained Eire Og at Pairc Naomh Mhuire. Unfortunately, our lads were second best against a powerful Eire Og team who had strong players all over the field and their resilience was too difficult for our lads to break down and therefore we were comprehensively beaten on a score-line Rock Emmets 0-5 Eire Og 5-22. The next game for the under 16 team is an away game against Scotstown B team and takes place tonight Thursday 26th April at 7.00pm.
Under 8’s & 10’s
Just a reminder that coaching for all the under 8 players continues every Saturday mornings between 10.00–11.00am. We would encourage parent participation and all players are welcome to attend these coaching sessions.
Under 10 Go Games Blitz
Our under 10 team took part in the Go Games Blitz held in Oram on Saturday 21st April. There was a great turnout and well done to all the kids involved as they provided plenty of entertainment for the spectators and many thanks to all the parents who travelled and supported the kids on the day.
Under 12 Team
Our under 12 team are back in action this Saturday 28th April when they take on Corduff in Pairc Naomh Mhuire at 12 noon.
Under 14 Team
Our under 14 team travelled to play Currin last Saturday morning to begin their league campaign and despite a good effort in the first half Currin completely dominated the second half from start to finish and were far stronger on the day and secured a comprehensive victory. Their next game is on Saturday 5th May when they play Clones B team. Training for the under 14 players continues on Tuesday evenings.

Collecting History
1991 was obviously a special year for the club with the opening of Pairc Naomh Mhuire and of course the publication of “The Emetresse” by Peter McKenna, that detailing the history of the club. This has inspired the club to locate club memorabilia and any other information that can be used to highlight and record the history of the club. It is part of our attempts to build up our records so that we will have a rich resource of history that they will never be forgotten. I’m sure there are plenty of photographs, and old stories to be told and I am willing to meet and talk to anyone that can shed some light on any event. I am particularly interested in photographs relating to the opening of Pairc Naomh Mhuire back in 1991, or perhaps you have photographs of the festivals that we held during those years! Maybe you have photographs with regards to the 1993 Dr. Ward Cup final against Corduff, or what about our fantastic victory over Tyholland in 1996 to claim the Dr. Ward Cup. These events and many, many more will no doubt live long in our memory and it is important to record and document these for future generations. Anybody who brings their precious memorabilia forward will be able to bring it back again as I will scan the items digitally and catalogue them. This is your chance to record and be part of the history of the club so please feel free to email me at rockcorrygaa@live.ie or contact me on 086-1041165 should you have anything to share with the club.
Sympathy
On behalf of the club I would like to extend our deepest condolences to the Sheridan family on the recent passing of Jackie Sheridan. May he rest in peace.
