Howdy Y’All! If you’re looking for the best darn County & Western music there’s no need to go rushing off to Nashville, Tennessee – because on Friday 27th April “Rock Country & Irish Night” is coming to town. That’s right folks, lasso up your friends and grab your best bib and tucker and have yourselves a thigh slapping, toe tapping, hand clapping night of fun, fun, fun. This night proved very popular last year and it’s easy to see why. Because once again we have assembled the finest singers from the village and surrounding areas to perform not only their favourite Country & Western songs but also their favourite Irish classics. No other night does it like “Rock Country” with great songs performed by great singers including Phillip Clarke, Annette Hillis, Kelly Crowe, Hughie Carroll, Tracey Rooney, Fionnuala McQuillan, Walter Brown, Elaine Tate, Irene McCormick, Ollie McQuillan, Patricia Treanor, Pat McCormick, Martina McDermott, Brian McGill and Cait Fleming. Tickets are now on sale for this amazing and mind-blowing show which takes place in St. Marty’s Hall on Friday 27th April. You can guarantee your seat by obtaining a ticket from any of the “artists” performing on the night or you can contact any committee member or alternatively, tickets will also be available at the door on the night. Robert Brown will be providing the nights entertainment and it promises to be another spectacular night that you don’t want to miss. So please show your support by supporting them and make this night another magical experience that will live long in your memory. See y’all there!!!

Platinum Tanks Reserve League

Our reserve team suffered a third consecutive defeat in the Platinum Tanks reserve football league when they played Sean McDermotts last Saturday evening (7th April) at Pairc Naomh Mhuire. Our inability to build on a deserved one point at the interval cost us dearly as a poor second half display proved costly and Sean McDermott’s secured the victory on a score-line Rockcorry 3-4 Sean McDermotts 4-5. The game was played, in front of a very small crowd, in ideal Summer conditions and Sean McDermotts got off to a dream start when they found the net after six minutes. They extended their lead shortly afterwards when they slotted over a fine point to lead 0-0 to 1-1. Having weathered the early storm of attacks from Sean McDermotts we fought back strongly and opened our account on the 9th minute when Andrew Carroll finished off a lovely move when he pounced at close range to hit the back of the net. Sean McDermott’s stretched their lead when they converted free-kicks on the 13th and 16th minutes to leave the score 1-0 to 1-3. We equalised on the 19th minute with an excellent move down the left wing and when Colin Quinn collected the ball his rasping shot hit the top corner of the net to bring us back into contention.  Moments later we took the lead when Dwayne Rooney glided over a lovely point. Sean McDermott’s levelled proceeding on the 21st minute but another sweet point from the boot of Dwayne Rooney left the score at the interval Rockcorry 2-2 Sean McDermotts 1-4. When the second half resumed Sean McDermott’s made a bright start and notched up an impressive 2-2, without reply, to take a commanding seven point advantage which certainly laid the platform for their victory and meant we were always facing an uphill battle. In fairness, over the sixty minutes there was no doubting the wholehearted effort and desire from the lads and there were times during the second half when we threatened to make life difficult for Sean McDermott’s because we did cause the ‘odd moment’ of unease but ultimately a twenty-five minute period without a score proved fatal. In the end Sean McDermott’s secured the victory on a scoreline Rockcorry 3-4 Sean McDermott’s 4-5. Team & Scorers: Aaron Clerkin, Cathal Sheridan, Garry Calvert, Michael Carroll, Ryan Sharkey, Johnny Reilly, John Greenan, Martin Carroll, Conor McGeough, Anthony Tate, Colin Quinn 1-1, Ross Murray, Andrew Carroll 1-0 and Dwayne Rooney 1-3.
