CLUB NOTES

3rd April 2012

 

Senior Team Fixtures

Our senior team will commence their league campaign with a home fixture against Aughnamullen on Wednesday 11th April and the game has a throw-in time of 7.00pm.

Reserve Team Fixtures

The reserve team are back in action this Saturday 7th April with a home game against Sean McDermott’s at 6.30pm.

 “Rock Country & Irish Night” is Coming!!!

Lasso up your friends and make a note in your diary because, on Friday 27th April, “Rock Country & Irish Night” is coming to town!!! Once again we have assembled the finest singers from the village and surrounding areas to perform not only their favourite Country & Western songs but also their favourite Irish classics. Last year’s show had a great mix of styles and preforming this year will be Phillip Clarke, Annette Hillis, Kelly Crowe, Hughie Carroll, Tracey Rooney, Fionnuala McQuillan, Walter Brown, Elaine Tate, Irene McCormick, Ollie McQuillan, Patricia Treanor, Pat McCormick, Martina McDermott, Brian McGill and Cait Fleming. Tickets are now on sale for this mind-blowing and amazing show which takes place in St. Marty’s Hall on Friday 27th April. You can guarantee your seat by obtaining a ticket from any of the “artists” performing on the night or you can contact any committee member or alternatively, tickets will also be available at the door on the night. Robert Brown will be providing the nights entertainment and it promises to be another spectacular night that you don’t want to miss. So please show your support by supporting them and make this night another magical experience that will live long in your memory. See y’all there!!!

Under 8’s & 10’s

Coaching for the Under 8 players continues every Saturday mornings between 10.00–11.00am. Under 10’s training continues every Monday evening between 6.20–7.30pm and on Saturday mornings at 10.00am. All players are welcome to attend.

Under 12 Team

Our under 12 team got off to a good start in the Spring league competition last Saturday morning when they secured victory over Killeevan by seventeen points to six. This was a very enjoyable game of football and was a real team effort by our wee brave-hearts as they displayed some really good skills during the course of the game and it was a delight to watch. Their next outing is on Saturday 14th April when they play Aghabog at Pairc Naomh Mhuire and the game has a throw-in time of 12 noon. Training continues every Tuesday and Thursday evenings between 6.30–7.30pm.

Under 14 Team

The under 14 team start their league campaign on Saturday 21st April with an away game against Currin at 12 noon.

Under 16 Team

Our under 16 team Rock-Emmets (an amalgamation between Rockcorry & Aghabog) commence their football season on Thursday 12th April at 7.00pm.

Minor Team

The minor team continued their pre-season preparations with a challenge game last Sunday morning against Cootehill. To date they have played a numerous challenge games against Monaghan Harps, Scotstown and Aughnamullen/Toome amalgamation side. The minor league commences on Tuesday 10th April when they travel to play Truagh at 7.00pm. Lucocade Sport Challenge

Can you imagine the difference €10,000 could make to our club!!!. It could provide new team kits, new nets or posts, a lick of paint or repairs for the clubhouse, transport to matches etc.  Lucozade Sport wants to help make a difference to three sports clubs anywhere in Ireland – with €10,000 to assist each club in improving their facilities and equipment. All we have to do is simply collect as many Lucozade Sport and Lucozade Sport Lite bottle caps as possible between now and 31st  August and we could be in with a sporting chance. To level the playing field, there’s €10,000 on offer to small, medium and large clubs. The club in each category that collects the most bottle caps will win €10,000. Plus, every club that collects at least 500 bottle caps goes into a prize draw to win €5,000. So come on folks, spread the word amongst club members, supporters, and get collecting those bottle caps.

The numbers drawn last Monday night were 15, 17, 23 and 24. There was no jackpot winner of €11,700.00. Easter Camps 2012

A three Day Easter Camp will take place in Ballybay, Scotstown and Donaghmoyne, on the Tuesday 10th, Wednesday 11th and Thursday 12th April from 10:30am to 2:30pm. The cost is €40 for the  1st child and €35 for additional children from the same family. The camps are targeting boys & girls aged between 5 to 10 but if older children want to attend please contact Paul O’Connor. Talk Sport for Shauna

A major fund raising event will be held in the Hillgrove Hotel on Sunday May 6th 2012 at 8.00pm. It is entitled ‘Talk Sport for Shauna’. Top personalities from various sporting organisations will participate in a panel discussion and will answer questions from the floor. The night will be chaired by a top RTE GAA commentator and it promises to be a very entertaining night for all sports people. Árd Stiurtheoir, Paraic Duffy, who is a Patron of the Rett Syndrome Association, has assisted the organisers and is very supportive of the work being done. Coiste Chontae Mhuineacháin has also promised its support for this venture. Tickets are priced at €10 and will go on sale in two weeks-time and the organisers hope that all GAA Clubs in County Monaghan will assist by helping to sell tickets for this event, which will make such a difference to Shauna’s life and mean so much to her family. Please be as generous as you can.

SAQ Course

A Speed, Agility & Quickness Course will take place on Saturday 28th April in Annyalla National School at 10.00am to 4.00pm The course costs € 40 each and there are limited places available so please book your place now with Monaghan Sports Partnership on 042-9755126. SAQ is a system of training that enhances performance in all sports-  Improves acceleration, speed and explosiveness-  Increases hand to eye co-ordination. The closing date for registration is Friday 20th April and the minimum number of participants required is twenty.

Gaeltacht Scholarships 2012

Interviews for Gaeltacht Scholarships will take place in the Enterprise Centre, Castleblayney on Saturday 21st April beginning at 10.00am. These are half scholarships and are available for students in the 14 to 17 age bracket. Earth Hour

Some of you may not be aware that “Earth Hour” takes place this weekend on Saturday 31st March at 20.30pm. Earth Hour is an initiative which basically involves turning off all unnecessary lighting for an hour to highlight greener thinking. It’s an event that started off very small but is now a global fixture, getting bigger every year. We can play our part! I would like to ask members of the club to participate in “Earth Hour” by switching off lights in your home at 8:30 pm on Saturday 31st March. We are helping the environment through one simple gesture for one hour on one day. If anyone would like further information please visit the Earth Hour website http://www.earthhour.org

Soccer Tournament

After the success of the soccer tournament last year the players have decided to organise another 5-a-side tournament. The date and location has to be confirmed but if you are interested in entering a team please contact Paul McKeown, Anthony Tate, Mark Daly, or Noel Carroll and it costs €100 per team to enter.

Club Membership

Club membership is now due once again and can be paid to our club Registrar Pat Brannigan. The annual subscription for adults is €20 with all juveniles under the age of 18 costing €5 and any student that can provide a valid student card the membership fee is €5. As previously advised it is extremely important that ALL players pay their club membership otherwise you will not be covered under the GAA insurance scheme.
