Meetings: The club’s monthly meeting for April takes place in the clubhouse tonight (Thursday) at 8pm, preceded by the juvenile meeting at 7.

Reserves: The O’Duffy Cup team had a 4-15 to 2-7 win at home to Magheracloone on Saturday. We took charge early on with goals by Liam Hahessy and Paul Kelly and some good points by Liam and Niall Hahessy, Gary Murray, David Loughran and Paddy Connolly. Liam finished off a great cross from Loughran for his second goal and Paul sent a first-time shot home for his second soon after as we moved 4-8 to 0-4 clear by half-time. Liam added some great scores in the second half and even though Magheracloone got a couple of goals back, the hard work was done by then. We have an away game against Latton next Wednesday (April 18).

Team and scorers: Conall McKenna; Niall Greenan, Niall McKenna, Conor Devlin; Paddy Kelly, Gareth Treanor, Robbie Moyna; Paul Rushe, Paddy Connolly (0-2); Paul Kelly (2-0), Nicholas Treanor (Capt., 0-1), Gary Murray (0-1); David Loughran (0-3, 2f), Niall Hahessy (0-2), Liam Hahessy (2-6).

Subs: Ronan Garvey for Connolly, Séamus Brannigan for Paddy Kelly, Conn O’Hanlon for N Hahessy (inj.), Johnny Sherry for Devlin, Donal Cuddy for L Hahessy.

Get involved: The Monaghan Harps Lotto plays an integral part in the running of the club and we greatly appreciate the efforts of all ticket-sellers. If anyone would like to get involved with the lotto, they can contact Maria McKenna at 086 1057725. We have a number of dates coming up in the next few months in the shopping and volunteers are needed, so let Maria know if you want to help out.

U-14: Our U-14 division one team played away to Emyvale last Saturday in the first round of the championship. Our lads started very well, aided with a strong breeze, and they took control of the match, going in to the interval leading by 1-6 to 0-1. Emyvale rallied, however, to draw level by full-time on a scoreline of 2-7 to 1-10. Following ten minutes a side of extra-time Emyvale ran out the winners on a final score of 3-15 to our 2-11. Next up for both of our Under-14 football teams is a double-header in Emyvale on Saturday week (April 21).

Minors: The minor footballers lost their first league game at home to a strong Scotstown side last Tuesday on a scoreline of 1-16 to 0-8. The lads are away to Killanny tonight (Tuesday) at 7 and are at home to Clontibret next Tuesday at 7.15pm.

U-16: The Under-16 footballers start their league campaign with an away game in Killanny this Thursday (April 12). Good luck to Brian Lenehan, Gary White, Nicholas Scott and the panel.

U-12: Both of our Under-12 teams have home games against Scotstown this Saturday. The first match throws in at 12 noon.

Congratulations: Well done to Brendan McQuaid, Conor O’Neill, trainer Alan Ryan and the Monaghan minor hurlers, who won the Ulster MHL Division Two Final after a thrilling finish against Tyrone last Sunday. Brendan played a key role at corner-forward.

Happy Birthday To Niall Hahessy, who turned 21 last weekend.

Hurling: The senior hurlers had a comfortable 1-19 to 0-6 win over Knocks in the Development Hurling League last Thursday and the Under-14s beat Inniskeen by 4-6 to 4-3 in the league on Monday. The DHL continues with a home game against Inniskeen this Thursday, while the Under-14s start the defence of their championship title with a home game against Carrickmacross on Monday. The minor amalgamation of Truagh and the Harps play Cootehill on Sunday at 12 noon.

Talk Sport for Shauna: A sports talk night will take place in the Hillgrove Hotel on Sunday, May 6, featuring top personalities in various codes. This event is to raise badly-needed funds for the treatment of a Scotstown girl, Shauna McPhillips, who has Rett syndrome. For more information, contact Peadar McMahon at 086 0443300. We need three stewards from the club on the night, so please contact any committee member if you are available.
